오는 6월1일 치러지는 세종시장 선거에서 3선 도전에 나서는 이춘희 후보가 '과잉의전' 논란에 휩싸였다.
10일 브레이크 뉴스 취재를 종합하면 이춘희 후보는 지난 8일 부처님 오신 날 세종시 장군면 위치한 한 사찰에서 봉축 법요식에 참석했다.
봉축 법요식 이후 이춘희 후보는 이 곳에 와 있던 300여명의 시민들과 인사를 했다.
하지만 이춘희 후보를 밀착 수행한 얼굴은 다름아닌 세종시를 지역구로 둔 홍성국 국회의원으로 알려지면서 '과잉 의전'이라는 비판이 일고 있다.
실제 홍 의원은 이춘희 후보 옆에서 일일이 '이춘희 시장님'이라고 소개하고 다녀 국회의원이 시장 후보 수행 업무까지 맡은 게 아니냐는 주변 사람들의 웃음을 샀다.
이춘희 후보에 대한 홍 의원의 의전은 행사장을 떠날 때까지 계속된 것으로 알려졌다.
이를 두고 주변에선 이춘희 후보가 현직시장 신분인 점을 고려하더라도 세종시 국회의원에게 의전을 받는 것은 이해할 수 없다는 반응이다.
"선거에 나서는 후보를 이 지역 국회의원이 의전하는 경우는 문제가 있다"고 목소리를 높였다.
이를 지켜본 한 시민은 "지난 8년동안 세종시장으로 재임하면서 의전 받는게 몸에 밴 것 같다."며 "선거기간만이라도 진정으로 시민에게 다가가는 모습을 보이면 좋겠다"고 안타까워 했다.
또 다른 시민은 "이 후보측 수행을 요구받고도 거절못한 국회의원의 태도도 부끄럽기 짝이 없다"고 말했다.
이에 대해 홍 의원은 " 이춘희 후보는 연장자이고 불자 신분으로 안내해 드린것 뿐"이라며 "의전은 아니었다 "고 해명했다.
