브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 이재명 더불어민주당 총괄선대위원장은 24일 자신이 출마한 인천 계양을 국회의원 보궐선거 여론조사 결과가 접전으로 나오고 있는데 대해 "저도 아침 6시 반부터 출근 인사를 지나가는 차량들 상대로 하고 있는데 현장의 반응은 그 ARS 조사 결과와는 많이 다르다. 정말 달라도 많이 다르다"고 말했다.
이재명 위원장은 이날 KBS 라디오 '최경영의 최강시사' 인터뷰에서 "ARS 조사는 응답률이 1~2%대에 불과하다", "정확도가 매우 떨어진다", "거기에 넘어가면 안된다"며 이같이 주장했다.
그는 "제가 말씀드린 것처럼 ARS 조사에 지고 있더라. 그건 포기하게 하기 위한 일종의 작전일 수도 있다"면서 "미국에선 10%인가 15% 이하 응답률 여론조사는 발표 못 하게 하고 있다. 워낙 악용이 많이 되기 때문이다. 질문에 이쪽 진영이 기분 나빠 할 질문을 넣어 놓으면 탁 끊어버리지 않나. 왜곡하기가 쉽다"고 설명했다.
그는 연고가 없는 계양을에 출마한 것은 지지 명분이 떨어진다는 지적에도 "지역 연고는 가지고 있지만 무능력하거나 영향력도 미미한 경우라면 그게 과연 도움이 되겠냐"면서 "역량이 있는 큰 일꾼같은 사람이 오히려 지역 발전에 도움이 된다. 저는 지역 연고를 훨씬 넘어서는 역량의 크기 또 영향력의 크기 이런 걸로 보면 훨씬 더 제가 환영받고 있다고 생각한다"고 반박해싿.
그러면서 "저는 성남 사람이었다가 경기도 사람이었다가 이제는 대한민국 국민을 대표하는 절반 가까운 지지를 받는 정말 전국을 다 저희 지역구라고 할 수 있는 측면도 있으니까 그런 점을 고려해달라"고 덧붙였다.
앞서 이재명 위원장은 현재 정치 상황에 대해서도 우려를 나타낸 데 대해선 "이번 지방선거가 대통령 취임 20일만에 치러지는 것이어서 민주당의 준비된 정말 유능한 일꾼들이 선거 상 어려움에 처했다"면서 "민주당에서 이번에 이재명이라는 정치적 도구를 통해서 희망을 만들고자 했던 분들이 지금 좌절하고 포기하고 있는데 다시 용기 내고 투표하면 반드시 이길 수 있다는 말씀을 제가 많이 드리고 싶다"고 했다.
그는 "실제로 한명숙, 오세훈 서울시장 선거 때 18% 진다는 여론조사가 계속돼서 투표 포기한 분들이 많았다. 그런데 최종 결론은 0.6%, 정말 초박빙으로 석패하지 않았나. 오세훈, 정세균 후보가 종로 보궐선거 얼마 전에 했을 때도 오세훈 후보 맨날 10%로 이긴다 그랬는데 결론은 정세균 후보의 14% 압승이었다"면서 "그래서 포기하지 말자. 눈물 흘리며 TV 못 보겠다 밥 안 넘어간다 이러지 마시고 그 힘을 바꿔서 힘내서 주변 분들 투표 같이하게 하고 포기하지 않으면 저는 이길 수 있다고 본다. 또 그게 제 역할이다. 이 광범위한 절망감, 패배 의식, 무기력증을 희망, 열정으로, 투지로 바꿔 내는 것 그게 제가 해야 할 일이라고 생각한다"고 말했다.
