일산신도시 개발의 뒤안길에 남겨진 50년 된 일산농협창고가 복합문화예술창작소로 탈바꿈한다.
고양시는 6월 초순 복합문화예술창작소 조성 공사를 착공한다고 밝혔다.
고양시 일산서구 일산동 655-209번지에 위치한 일산농협창고는 1971년 일산농협에서 양곡.소금을 보관하기 위해 만든 건물이다.

창고는 근대문화재인 옛 일산역 인근에 위치해있고 일산 원도심이라는 지역 전통성을 가진 건물이지만 최근까지 방치되어 우범화가 우려되는 상황이었다.
이에 시는 도시재생사업과 연계해 창고를 특색 있는 문화공간으로 바꾸어 도시를 활성화하고 주민을 위한 공간을 만들기 위해 복합문화예술창작소 조성 사업을 기획했다.
시는 2021년도에 창고를 매입해 다양한 문화예술활동이 가능한 공간으로 단장하기 위한 사업을 추진했다.
토지 1,322㎡와 건축연면적 690.69㎡ 규모에 해당하는 일산농협창고는 리모델링을 거쳐 다목적홀, 커뮤니티, 공유주방, 마을카페, 쉼터 등 다채로운 공간을 갖춘 복합문화공간으로 바뀔 예정이다.

시는 사업비 부족으로 추진에 어려움을 겪었으나 경기도에 적극 지원을 요청했고 경기도로부터 사업의 필요성을 인정받아 특별조정교부금 17억 원을 지원받았다.
시는 착공을 위한 모든 행정절차를 마쳤으며 5월 중 시공사를 선정해 6월 초순부터 본격적인 리모델링 공사를 시작해 11월 중 시민에게 개방할 예정이라고 밝혔다.
시 관계자는“일산농협창고는 50년의 세월이 담긴 역사적 건물이자 지역 어르신에게는 보릿고개를 함께한 추억이 깃든 장소”라면서“일산농협창고를 일산지역 도시재생의 거점으로 삼아 지역 주민에게 커뮤니티 공간을 제공하고 원도심 활성화에 기여하겠다”고 밝혔다. 고양=박정호기자
