[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 경상남도가 교육비 부담으로 어려움을 겪고 있는 저소득층 중·고등학교 장학생 400명에게 1인당 50만 원씩 총 2억 원의 장학금을 지급한다.
장학생 선발 대상은 도내 주소를 둔 중위소득 70% 이하 가구의 중·고등학생으로, 학업성적 향상자 또는 우수자, 어려운 환경 속에서도 성실하고 타의 모범이 되는 자로 학교장이 추천하는 학생이다.
학교에서 자체 심의를 거친 학생들을 경상남도교육청에서 장학생 선정 심사위원회를 통해 선발, 추천하였고 경남도에서 중학생 237명, 고등학생 163명 등 총 400명의 장학생을 최종 확정하였다.
학업 동기부여와 유능한 인재 양성을 위한 이번 사업은 올해 4년 차로 지난해까지 2,348명의 학생에게 11억 7천만 원의 장학금을 지원했다.
저소득층 가정의 학부모뿐만 아니라 학교 담임 선생님의 관심도 날로 높아지고 있는 하반기 장학금은 11월 말까지 대상자를 추천 확정해 12월 중 지급할 계획이다.
오종수 경남도 통합교육추진단장은 “코로나19 재확산과 불안한 경제상황에 사회적 관심이 필요한 서민자녀 가정의 경제적 부담 완화뿐만 아니라 학생들의 꿈과 희망이 실현될 수 있기를 응원한다”고 말했다.
