장군 출신인 하정열 작가(본지 칼럼니스트) 미국 워싱턴 교민회로부터 감사장을 받았다. 그는 미국 독립기념일을 맞아 7월4일부터 15일까지 미국의 워싱턴 D.C에서 미주한인재단의 초청으로 특별전시회에 참여했는데, 이를 기려 워싱턴 한인교민회가 감사장을 수여하게 된 것.
초대작가로 초청된 그는 이번 전시회에 우주창조와 우주삼라만상 등 우주를 대상으로 한 독창적인 작품 10여 점을 전시했다.
그는 우주를 주제로 동서양의 사상과 물질을 조화시킨 독특한 우주작품을 창작하고 있으며, 2014 대한민국미술전람회 종합대상, 2015년 홍익대학교 미술대학원장상, 2016 대한민국 파워리더 서양화부문 대상, 2017 대한민국 BEST인물대상 문화예술인부문 대상과 2018 대한민국 BEST인물대상 서양화부문 특별대상, 2018 일본 오사카 미술평론가상, 2019년 ‘3.1운동 100주년 기념 대한민국평화미술대축전’ 우수작가상, 미국 칼슨시 시장상, 2019 뉴욕아트페어 미술부문 대상, 2021년 미국 한국전 참전용사 기념전 세계평화상, 스포츠서울 ‘2021 Innovation 기업&브랜드 대상’ 문화예술부문 대상, 2022 한국예술문화원 초대작가상 등 국내외 저명한 상을 30여회 수상했다.
