김태흠 충남도지사는 5일 금산 출신 애국지사로 대전에 거주 중인 이일남(97) 옹의 자택을 방문해 감사의 뜻과 함께 위문품을 전달했다.
제77주년 광복절을 앞두고 가진 이번 위문은 이종규 금산부군수, 최훈기 광복회충남지부장과 함께해 그 의미를 더했다.
이일남 애국지사는 1925년 금산에서 태어나 1942년 전주 사범학교 재학 시절 일본인 교장의 민족차별 교육에 분개해 ‘우리회’를 조직, 항일운동을 펼쳤다.
1945년에는 독립운동 자금 조달을 목적으로 금산사방관리소 인부로 취업 중 발각돼 투옥됐다 광복 이후 출소했다.
이 애국지사는 1986년 대통령 표창에 이어 1990년 건국훈장 애족장을 받았다.
도와 시군 간부 공무원들은 광복절 전후 도내 독립유공자 415명을 찾아 위문품을 전달하고 감사의 뜻을 전할 계획이다.
김 지사는 “이일남 애국지사님을 만나 뵌 것은 저에게 크나큰 영광”이라며 “앞으로도 독립운동가에 대한 예우와 지원을 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
