플라스틱 등 생활폐기물이 심각한 환경문제를 일으키고 있는 가운데 고양시 청년들이 자원 재활용을 통한 환경보호에 앞장서고 있다.
현재 ‘청년 희망 일자리’ 사업 참여자 6명이 이동식 자원순환가게인 ‘달리는 고양 재활용가게’를 통해 페트병과 플라스틱 등 생활 재활용품 회수에 적극 나서고 있다.

청년 희망 일자리 사업은 관내 미취업 청년에게 민간취업을 위한 경력을 쌓을 수 있도록 고양시가 진행 중인 사업이다.
각자의 관심이나 능력에 맞는 다양한 분야에서 활동하고 있는 청년들 중 환경 분야에 관심이 많은 이들이 재활용 활성화를 위해 애쓰고 있다.
재활용활성화사업은 코로나19로 인한 플라스틱 등 일회용품 사용이 증가하고 지난해 12월부터 단독주택지역에서도 투명페트병 별도 분리배출이 의무화되자 고양시가 적극 추진하고 있는 정책이다.
고양시는 작년 8월부터 12월까지 대화동 단독주택 지역에서 재활용품을 회수하는 ‘고양자원순환가게’를 시범 운영했다.

올해 4월부터는 보다 많은 주민이 참여할 수 있도록 소형트럭을 이용해 관내 지역을 순회하는 ‘달리는 고양 재활용가게’를 실시하고 있다.
청년들은 생활 재활용품 수거를 돕고 주민들에게 올바른 분리배출 방법 등을 알려주는 등 재활용에 대한 주민관심과 의식을 높이고 있다.
