파주시는 지난 8일 임진각 관광단지 내에 위치한 한반도 생태평화 종합관광센터 개관식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.
이날 개관식에는 김경일 파주시장을 비롯해 국회의원, 파주시의회 의장, 시·도의원, 1사단장, 한국관광공사 한반도 관광센터장, 파주도시관광공사 사장 등 총 20여 명이 참석해 축하했다.

한반도 생태평화 종합관광센터는 한반도 생태평화벨트사업의 일환으로 추진했으며, 총사업비 141억원을 들여 2018년 2월에 착수하고 지난해 12월에 준공을 완료한 후 시범 운영을 실시, 8월 8일 정식으로 개관했다.
건축물은 연면적 3,982㎡ 규모로 편익동과 전시동으로 구성됐으며, 편익동은 기획전시실, 매표소 등으로, 전시동은 최첨단 한반도 가상현실 여행체험관 등으로 이뤄졌다.
파주시는 한반도 생태평화 종합관광센터를 중심거점으로 임진각 평화곤돌라, 캠프그리브스, 국립 6.25전쟁 납북자 기념관, 제3땅굴 등과 연계한 체류형 DMZ 생태평화 관광코스를 개발할 예정이다.

시는 한반도 생태평화 종합관광센터가 DMZ지역의 역사와 생태적 가치를 즐기며 체험하는 장으로 발전하고, 고성부터 강화까지 DMZ 10개 시군 전체를 아우르는 한반도 생태평화벨트 사업의 거점 역할과 지역의 관광 활성화에 크게 기여할 것으로 보고 있다.
