고양시에서 생활체육동호인들의 오랜 숙원사업인 화정배수지 족구장 환경개선사업을 마무리했다고 10일 밝혔다.
화정배수지 족구장은 노후화로 그물망이 훼손되고 별도의 휴식공간이 없어 시민들이 간이 휴게소를 직접 설치하여 운영하는 등 열약한 환경에 있었다.

이에 시는 쾌적한 운동 환경을 조성하고 생활체육 저변을 확대하기 위해 이번 공사를 실시했다.
공사 중 족구장에서 수거한 인조잔디는 인근 파크골프장에 이식되었다.
파크골프장은 잔디 보식을 시도했으나 나무 그늘로 인해 잔디가 자라지 않아 주이용층인 어르신들이 맨땅에서 파크골프를 즐기는 실정이었다.

시 관계자는 “족구장을 새로이 단장했을 뿐만 아니라 파크골프장에 인조잔디를 이식함으로써 두 민원을 조기에 종식했다”며 “많은 시민의 이용을 바란다”고 전했다. 고양=박정호기자
