[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원박물관 건립을 위해 이재욱 前노키아TMC 명예회장이 모바일 산업 관련 유물 186점을 기증했다.
창원특례시는 11일 이재욱 前노키아TMC 명예회장에게 기증증서 및 감사패를 전달했다.
노키아TMC는 1984년 마산자유무역지역에 입주한 이후 우리나라에서 최초로 휴대전화를 생산한 기업이다.
노키아는 당초 미국과 핀란드가 합작한 탠디모비라 통신이라는 무선기기 제조기업으로 설립됐으며, 이후 노키아가 지분을 모두 인수하면서 노키아TMC가 탄생한 것이다.
1998년부터 2010년까지 13년간 전 세계 휴대전화 점유율 1위를 차지한 바 있으며, 특히 IMF 외환위기 이후 창원지역의 경제를 이끌던 선두주자로 지역경제 발전에 크게 이바지했다.
이날 기증식에는 이재욱 명예회장과 이영환 봉림장학회 이사장이 참석했다.
이재욱 명예회장은 우리나라에서 최초로 생산된 휴대전화를 포함한 노키아 마산공장에서 생산된 휴대전화 전 모델을 기증했다. 이와 동시에 이재욱 명예회장에게 수여된 산업 훈장 등도 함께 전달됐다.
홍남표 시장은 “우리나라 휴대전화 기기의 변천사를 조명하고, 우수한 제조업 기술을 고찰할 수 있는 자료”라며 “IMF 외환위기라는 힘들었던 시기에 창원지역의 경제를 견인했던 노키아TMC에서 의미 있는 유물을 기증해줘서 감사하다”고 말했다.
이재욱 명예회장은 “노키아의 가장 큰 영광은 창원에서 이루어진 것”이라며 “창원박물관이 조속히 건립되어 노키아TMC에서 생산된 휴대전화를 많은 시민들이 공유했으면 좋겠다”고 전했다.
