브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 김성원 국민의힘 의원이 수해 현장에서 복구 작업 도중 "솔직히 비 좀 왔으면 좋겠다, 사진 잘 나오게"라고 말한데 대해 12일 대국민 사과를 했다.
김성원 의원은 이날 오전 국회 소통관에서 기자회견을 갖고 "정말 죄송합니다. 저 자신이 너무나 부끄럽고 참담한 심정입니다. 다시 한 번 무릎 꿇고 사죄드립니다"고 밝혔다.
그는 "저의 경솔한 말로 인해 상처받고 또 분노했을 국민께 평생 반성하고 속죄하겠습니다"라며 "그 어떤 말로도 저의 잘못을 돌이킬 수 없다는 것을 잘 알고 있습니다. 다만 수해복구에 나선 국민의힘의 진정성까지 내치지 않으시길 국민 여러분께 간절한 마음으로 부탁드립니다"라고 거듭 사과했다.
그러면서 "이번 일로 당이 저에게 내리는 어떤 처분도 달게 받겠다. 제가 갖고 있는 유일한 직책인 예산결산특별위원회 간사직도 내려놓겠다"고 덧붙였다.

김 의원은 이같은 내용의 입장문을 약 1분30여초간 발표한 뒤, 기자들의 질의를 받지 않고 소통관을 빠져나갔다.
한편 국민의힘은 전날 비상대책위원회 체제 전환 이후 첫 공식 행사로 침수 피해를 입은 서울 동작구 사당동에서 봉사활동를 벌였다.
봉사활동 시작 전 옆에 서 있던 권성동 원내대표와 얘기를 나누던 김성원 의원은 '솔직히 비 좀 왔으면 좋겠다, 사진 잘 나오게'라고 말하는 것이 방송 카메라에 잡혔다.
옆에 있던 임이자 의원이 김 의원을 툭 치며 제지했지만 이미 엎질러진 물이었다.

당시 현장에 있던 기자들로부터 적절치 못한 발언 아니냐는 질문이 쇄도하자, 주호영 비대위원장은 "김 의원이 평소에도 참 장난기가 있다. 잘 좀 이해해달라"고 농담으로 치부하며 "여러분(기자)들도 노는데 우리가 가서 다 찍어보면 나올게 없는 것 같나. 크게 봐달라. 작은거 하나하나 가지고 큰 뜻을 흐리지 말고"라고 김 의원을 두둔하기에 바빴다.
하지만 해당 영상이 공개되며 여론이 급속하게 나빠지자 주호영 비대위원장은 12일 오전 출근길에 기자들과 만나 "이해할 수 없는 발언으로 물의를 일으켜 참담하다. 윤리위 절차를 밟을 수도 있을 것 같다"고 입장을 선회했다.
김성원 의원도 11일 오후 늦게 자신의 페이스북을 통해 "부끄럽고 참담한 심정이다. 수해로 피해 입은 분을 위로해드려야 할 텐데 오히려 심려를 끼쳤다. 진심으로 반성하고 또 반성하며 국민 앞에 엎드려 사죄드린다"고 사과했지만 국민 여론은 물론 당 안팎에서도 비판이 나왔다.
