취임 2개월을 맞는 이동환 경기 고양시장이 원희룡 국토교통부장관을 직접 만나 지역발전을 위해 반드시 필요한 핵심 숙원사업 11건을 반영해 줄 것을 건의했다.
지난 26일 세종시 정부종합청사에서 열린 이 시장과 원 장관의 면담은 지자체 차원의 1기 신도시 재건축 기간 단축 방안은 물론, 수도권정비계획법상 권역조정 및 공업지역 물량 배정, 경제자유구역 지정 협조 등 국가차원의 정책지원이 필요한 사항들을 고양시가 건의하기 위해 이뤄졌다.

이날 이 시장은 원 장관에게“과밀억제권역으로 설정되었음에도 불구하고 정부가 바뀔 때마다 대규모 공공주택지구 지정이 계속되는 등 인구는 계속 늘어나고 상당한 면적이 이미 도시화가 진행되었다.
이중, 삼중의 각종 규제로 인해 시민들에게 꼭 필요한 기업, 대학, 자족인프라 등은 인구대비 오히려 부족해지는 기현상을 보이고 있다.”고 설명했다.
또한 이 시장은 “그 동안 고양시가 베드타운이라는 오명에서 벗어나지 못하도록 규제해 온 중앙정부의 책임도 큰 만큼 경기북부지역에 대한 균형발전 차원에서 정부의 적극적인 해결책 마련이 반드시 필요하다”고 강조했다.
이에 원희룡 국토교통부 장관도 “고양시민들의 요구사항을 너무나 잘 이해한다면서 정부차원에서 빠르고 적극적으로 현안들이 반영될 수 있도록 최대한 노력하겠다.”고 밝혔다.
