브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 국민의힘 상임전국위원회 의장인 서병수 의원은 31일 의장직 사퇴를 선언했다.
서병수 의원은 이날 국회에서 기자회견을 열고 "저는 이 시간부로 전국위 의장직을 내려놓겠다"며 "전국위 의장을 내려놓겠다는 것은 상임전국위 의장, 전대 의장도 내려놓겠다는 뜻"이라고 밝혔다.
그는 "저는 그동안 지도부를 구성하는데 있어 일관되게 직무대행 체제로 가는 게 옳다고 주장했으나 어제 의원총회에서 비대위로 가는 게 결론이 났다"며 "제 소신과 생각을 지키면서도 당에 불편을 주지 않거나, 당 지도부가 가는 방향에 걸림돌이 되지 않을 수 있을까 고심했다"고 사퇴 이유를 설명했다.
그는 '당 지도부가 의총 이후 상임전국위와 관련해 연락을 해왔나'라는 기자의 질문에 "당의 지도부, 당직자 누구도 연락이 없었다. 지도부의 연락이 오길 바랐고 전국위 소집 요구서를 저한테 보내주길 기다리고 있었으나 아직까지 아무런 연락도 없어서 입장 표명을 해야겠다고 생각했다"고 했다.
이어 그는 "의장이 궐위될 때에는 부의장이 (상임전국위 등을) 소집할 수 있는 권한과 사회를 볼 수 있는 권한이 (당헌·당규에) 있다"고 설명했다.
이와 관련, 이준석 전 대표는 서병수 의원의 사퇴 기자회견이 진행되는 도중 자신의 페이스북을 통해 "부당함에 대해 할 말을 하고 명확한 의사 표현을 해주신 서 의장님께 너무 큰 부담이 지워진 것 같아 항상 죄송하고 또 마음이 아팠다"며 "왜 책임져야 할 자들은 갈수록 광분해서 소리 높이며 소신 있는 사람들은 자리를 떠나야 하나"고 비판했다.
