충남교육청이 5일 공주 충남교육청안전수련원에서 도내 일제잔재가 남아있는 44개교 학교장과 업무 담당자를 대상으로 ‘학교 내 일제잔재 청산 관련 회의’를 실시했다고 밝혔다.
교육청에서는 2018년부터 실시한 ‘학교 내 일제잔재 청산 사업’을 통해 ▲교가 개정 5교 ▲교표 변경 1교 ▲머릿돌 및 기념물 철거·이전 6교 등의 사업 성과를 보였으나, 여전히 일부 학교에서는 동문회 등의 반대로 친일 행적 인물이 작사·작곡한 교가 개정과 기념물 철거가 이뤄지지 못하고 있는 실정이다.
이번 회의는 교육청이 지난 5월 실시한 학교 내 일제잔재 현황에 대한 추가 조사를 바탕으로 교가 개정의 필요성과 관련 절차에 대해 안내하였으며, 기념물 철거?이전, 안내문 설치 등 학교 실정에 적합한 일제잔재 청산 방안을 제시했다.
이정순 민주시민교육과장은 “여러 복합적인 이유로 학교 내 일제잔재 청산에 어려움이 있을 수 있겠지만, 자라나는 학생들의 올바른 역사의식 함양을 위해 적극적으로 청산사업에 동참해달라”라고 말했다.
