경남도는 박완수 도지사 핵심 공약인 '도지사 관사 도민 환원' 약속을 이행하기 위해 15일부터 현 시설 그대로 우선 개방하고, 추후 도민의 의견을 반영해 콘텐츠와 리모델링 방향 등을 정하기로 했다.
관사를 도민에게 돌려주기 위해 민선8기 도지사직 인수팀에서 활용 방안에 대한 도민 의견을 수렴한 결과 문화공간 조성이 가장 많은 33%가 제시됐다.
경남도는 지난 7월부터 도지사 관사를 도민 복합문화공간으로 조성하기 위해 예술인, 생활문화동호인, 청년세대, 청년문화기획자, 공공건축가 등 도민 의견 수렴과 전문가 자문을 거쳤다.

복합문화공간 조성은 단계별로 추진한다.
1단계는 도민들이 누구나 자유롭게 휴식과 문화를 즐길 수 있도록 현 시설 그대로 우선 개방하고, 도지사 관사·도민의 집 출입구와 내부 안내판 등은 도내 청년 작가들의 아이디어로 만들어 나갈 계획이다.
우선 개방 운영 계획은 도민이 직접 원하는 콘텐츠를 활용할 수 있도록 실내공간과 야외 정원을 개방하며(실내 9시~20시, 야외 9시~21시, 매주 월요일 휴관), 관심도 제고를 통한 유인과 시너지효과를 낼 수 있도록 청년 트렌드에 맞게 기획 전시 연출도 병행한다.
