브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 주호영 국민의힘 원내대표는 4일 더불어민주당이 이태원 참사 관련 국정조사를 요구한데 대해, 수사가 진행 중이니 수사 결과를 먼저 지켜보고 결정하자고 답했다.
주호영 원내대표는 이날 오전 국회에서 열린 원내대책회의에서 "지금 국정조사를 하면 오히려 수사에 방해만 될 뿐"이라며 이같은 입장을 피력했다.
그는 "(경찰) 수사 결과를 보고 미진하거나 부족한 점이 있으면 국정조사를 거부하지 않겠다. 오히려 국민의힘이 먼저 나서 요구할 것"이라며 "지금 경찰이 강제력을 동원해 신속하게 증거를 확보하고 국민들에게 보고하고 있는 과정인데, 국정조사로 관계자들을 불러내고 하면 자칫 정쟁으로 흐를 수 있다"고 지적했다.
이어 "이전의 여러 큰 사건에서도 수사가 어느 정도 마무리되면 국정조사를 한 전례들이 많기 때문에 이번에도 그런 입장을 가지고 있는 것"이라며 "민주당이 국정조사 요구서를 내면 범위와 시기 등에 관해 논의는 하겠다"고 협조할 뜻은 있음을 밝혔다.
그러면서 "민주당도 이런 여러 사정을 고려해 조금 더 수사 상황을 지켜봐 주고 필요하면 그때 국정조사를 요구하면 좋겠다"고 덧붙였다.
주 원내대표는 회의 직후 기자들과 만난 자리에서도 "필요하다면 특검이든 국정조사든 하겠다"면서도 "그러나 우리의 입장은 진실 발견에 가장 도움이 되는 방법과 순서로 해야한다는 것"이라고 말했다.
이상민 행정안전부 장관과 윤희근 경찰청장 경질론에 대해서도 "수사 결과를 봐가면서 책임 문제를 논의하겠다. 책임에는 법적책임, 지위책임, 정치적 책임 등 여러 책임이 있어서 우선은 법적책임 여부를 확정한 다음에 판단할 생각"이라고 했다.
