[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원을 대표하는 가을 축제인 제22회 마산국화축제가 9일 대단원의 막을 내렸다.
‘가을 바다에 국화 향기가 머무는 곳’이라는 주제로 지난 10월 29일부터 11월 9일까지 12일간 열린 이번 마산국화축제에는 56만여 명이 방문해 가을의 정취를 만끽했다.
애초 이번 국화축제는 주 축제장인 마산해양신도시 외에도 3·15해양누리공원, 합포수변공원, 오동동 문화광장 등 마산 전역에 문화행사를 비롯한 다양한 볼거리를 마련하여 큰 기대를 모았다.
그러나 이태원 사고로 국가 애도 기간이 지정되면서 차분한 축제 분위기를 조성하기 위해 인파가 몰릴 수 있는 문화행사 등을 전면 취소하고 축제장 안전관리에 주력했다.
마산해양신도시에 조성된 11만㎡여 규모 축제장에서는 12만 본의 국화로 만든 다양한 국화작품을 선보였다.
1만㎡ 규모 플라워카펫, 200m 길이 국화터널, 1만2000㎡에 이르는 국화동산 등이 관람객의 눈길을 사로잡았다.
또 올해 새롭게 조성한 5만3000㎡ 면적의 밭에 핀 코스모스, 해바라기, 백일홍 꽃잔치가 축제의 다채로움을 더했다.

시는 관람객의 안전을 최우선으로 두고 축제 기간 동안 교통정리, 축제장 안내, 환경 정비 등에 공무원, 모범운전자회, 자원봉사자 등 4000여 명의 인원을 투입했다. 그 결과 단 한 건의 사건·사고도 없이 무사히 축제를 마칠 수 있었다.
