브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 제너시스BBQ은 28일 보도자료를 통해 그룹이 본사와 가맹점이 함께 참여하는 대표적 사회공헌활동 ‘패밀리와 함께하는 치킨릴레이’에서 올해 11월까지 약 1억4000만원 상당 치킨을 전국 곳곳 사회복지시설에 전달했다고 밝혔다.
2017년부터 6년간 이어온 ‘패밀리와 함께하는 치킨릴레이’는 본사에서 신선육을 지원하면 참여를 원하는 패밀리가 치킨을 조리해 지역내 사회복지시설에 전달하는 방식이다. BBQ는 올해 7월부터 자체 푸드트럭 ‘BB-Car(비비카)’를 도입해 ‘찾아가는 치킨릴레이’를 시작하며, 기존 조리부터 전달까지의 소요 시간으로 치킨대학 인근으로만 국한됐던 치킨 기부를 전국으로 확장했다.
BBQ는 지난 25일 서울 광진구 자양 복지센터와 남양주시 행정복지센터에 방문해 치킨 100여마리를 기부했다. 11월 한 달간 제주도, 경상남도 진해, 경상북도 구미 등에 위치한 사회복지시설에 약 430마리를 전달했다. 올해 총 70여개 지점의 패밀리가 참여해 기부한 치킨은 약 7000마리에 달한다.
이 외에도 제너시스BBQ 그룹의 프리미엄 우동&돈카츠 브랜드 ‘우쿠야’도 지난달 29일 본사와 가맹점이 함께 ‘돈카츠릴레이’를 시작하며 사회공헌 활동 확장에 나섰다. 첫 릴레이로 우쿠야 제주법원점 패밀리가 인근 아동복지시설에 방문해 돈카츠 도시락 30인분을 기부했으며, 이어 25일 송파 노인복지센터에 도시락을 추가로 전달했다.
