충남도가 보령시, 서산시, 서천군, 청양군, 홍성군, 예산군, 태안군 충남 서부권 7개 지역이 참여한 가운데 서부권 지방상수도 통합 추진을 위한 업무협약을 28일 체결됐다
충남도는 행정안전부, 환경부, 충남 서부권 7개 시군과 기후위기 대응 및 수도사업 경영을 위한 업무협약을 가졌다고 밝혔다.
충남 서부권은 도내에서 유일한 광역 수원인 보령댐의 수위가 낮아지면 용수 부족 위험에 시달리는 지역이다.
또, 모두 급수인구가 30만 명 이하로 영세한 규모의 지방상수도를 운영하고 있어 장기적으로 수돗물 공급 개선을 위한 신규 투자여력이 없는 상황이다.
이번 협약으로 7개 시군은 수도시설이 연계돼 가뭄 등의 기후위기 상황에서도 안정적인 용수공급이 가능해진다. 또 수도시설의 통합 관리로 중복 및 과잉투자를 방지해 기초 지자체별 누수율, 상수도 보급률 등의 수돗물 공급 격차도 줄어들 전망이다.
한편, 김태흠 충청남도 도지사는 “충남 서부권 지방상수도 통합은 선도적으로 추진되는 국내 첫 지방상수도 통합의 본보기(모델)이다”라며, ”성공적으로 통합이 이루어지게 되면 충남 서부권 도민이 보다 나은 물 복지를 공평하고 안정적으로 누릴 수 있게 될 것“이라고 말했다.
