이번 유치는 올해 3월 4일 울진군에서 발생한 대형산불 피해를 극복하고 산불피해지역을 재건하기 위해 울진군과 경상북도가 역점적으로 추진한‘울진산불 피해극복 산림대전환 프로젝트’의 일환으로 총사업비 760억원 규모다.
‘울진산불 피해극복 산림대전환 프로젝트’는 총사업비 1조 5천억원 규모로 울진군에 국립동해안산불방지센터, 국립산지생태원, 국가동서트레일센터, 산림레포츠지구 등을 조성하는 내용으로 지난 5월 8일 윤석열 대통령의 지역공약으로 대통령직 인수위 지역균형발전과제 대국민보고에서 경북정책과제에 선정됐다.
