브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 김경수 전 경남도지사가 28일 0시 신년 특별사면을 받아 출소했다.
김 전 경남지사는 이날 0시 5분경 경남 창원교도소 정문을 통해 나왔다. 정문 앞에는 100여명의 지지자들이 모였고, 안전을 위한 100여명의 경찰병력도 배치됐다.
김 전 지사는 교도소 문을 나선 직후 부인 김정순 여사, 임종석 전 대통령 비서실장, 민주당 민홍철 의원, 김영배 의원, 허성무 전 창원시장 등과 차례로 악수했다.
이어 포토라인에 선 그는 "그동안 성찰의 시간이었다"며 "우리 사회가 대화와 타협으로 사회적 합의를 통해 더 따뜻한 사회를 만드는 거름이 되도록 낮은 자세로 성찰하고 노력하겠다"고 말하며 고개숙여 지지자에게 인사했다.

이어 그는 "따뜻한 봄에 나오려고 했는데 본의 아니게 추운 겨울에 나왔다"며 "저로서는 받고 싶지 않은 것을 받았다. 원하지 않았던 거라 고맙다고 할 수도, 그렇다고 돌려 보낼 수 있는 방법이 없다. 국민통합을 위해서라고 하는데 국민통합은 이런 방식으로, 일방적으로 우격다짐으로 되지 않는다는 것을 잘 알 것이다. 국민통합과 관련해 저로서는 대단히 송구하다는 말씀을 드리지 않을 수 없다"고 말했다.
그러면서 "정치의 중요한 역할은 우리 사회의 갈등과 대립을 조정하고 대화와 타협을 통해서 사회적 합의를 만드는 것인데 지금 여기까지 오는 동안 제 사건의 진실 여부를 떠나서 우리 사회 갈등과 대립의 골이 더 깊어진 것은 아닌지 돌아보게 된다"고 덧붙였다.

앞서 김 전 지사는 정부의 신년 특별사면 대상자에 포함됐다는 소식을 접한 뒤 '가석방 불원서'를 냈지만 윤석열 정부는 '복권 없는 사면’을 결정했다.
그는 '드루킹 댓글 조작' 혐의로 지난해 7월 대법원에서 징역 2년 확정받고 수감 중이었으며 내년 5월 출소 예정이었다. 하지만 이번 사면을 통해 잔여 형 면제됐고, 오는 2027년 12월28일까지 피선거권이 박탈돼 선거 등에 출마할 수 없다.
한편 김 전 지사는 출소 후 첫 일정으로 김해 봉하마을을 찾아 고 노무현 전 대통령 묘역을 참배할 예정이다.
