9일 울진군에 따르면 경상북도는 최근 늘어나는 도내 산불발생을 대비하고 특히 대형산불에 대한 대응력을 확대하기 위해 경상북도 119산불특수대응단 조직 신설을 결정했다.
이후 23개 경북 도내 시군을 대상으로 건립 부지 선정을 위한 공모사업을 진행했다.
울진군은 다시는 대형산불피해가 없도록 산불방지대책을 튼튼히 확보하는 차원에서 사업 여건을 갖춘 군유지를 선별하여 건립부지로 공모 신청했다.
경상북도는 지난해 12월 27일 부지선정위원회의 심사를 통하여 울진군에서 부지조성을 하는 것을 조건으로 119산불특수대응단 최종 건립지로 확정했다.
이번에 유치 확정된 경상북도 119산불특수대응단은 총 62명의 산불대응 조직력을 갖추어 울진군에서 부지조성을 완료하고 나면 총 220억 원의 예산으로 업무시설, 헬기격납고, 훈련시설 등 연면적 5,290㎡, 전체면적 33,100㎡의 규모로 조성할 계획이다.
또한, 시설 조성공사와 더불어 500억의 예산으로 10,000ℓ이상의 담수량을 가진 초대형 소방헬기를 구입하여 2026년 2월까지 배치할 계획이다.
손병복 울진군수는 “이번 119산불특수대응단의 유치로 울진산불피해의 아픔을 극복하고, 앞서 유치한 국립동해안산불방지센터와 함께 양대축으로 국가적 차원에서 산불진화 공조와 대응능력이 배가되어 산불피해 없는 안전한 울진군 지킴이의 큰 역할을 할 것으로 기대한다”라고 전했다.
