브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 해외 도피 중 태국에서 체포된 김성태 쌍방울그룹 전 회장이 17일 오전 귀국했다.
17일 검찰, 법조계에 따르면 김성태 전 회장은 이날 0시50분 태국 방콕에서 인천발 아시아나항공에 탑승했으며 오전 8시43분경 인천공항을 통해 귀국했다.
검찰은 그가 태국 현지에서 귀국 비행기에 탑승하자마자 현지에 급파한 검찰 수사관을 통해 체포영장을 집행했다.
김 전 회장은 이날 오전 10시46분께 인천공항에서 호송차를 타고 검찰로 바로 압송돼 조사를 받고 있다.

검찰은 그를 상대로 이재명 더불어민주당 대표의 변호사비 대납 의혹 등을 규명할 방침이다. 이재명 대표의 변호사비 대납 의혹의 중심에 선 핵심 인물로 분류된 김 전 회장이 귀국함에 따라 이번 수사가 속도를 낼 것으로 분석된다.
다만 김 전 회장은 혐의를 전면 부인하고 있다. 그는 인천공항에 도착해 호송차로 압송되는 과정에서 취재진이 '이재명 대표와 무슨 관계인가'라고 묻자 "모른다"고 선을 그으며 "검찰 조사에 성실히 임하겠다"는 원론적인 답변만 내놨다.

한편, 김 전 회장의 조사는 수원지검 형사 6부(부장검사 김영남)가 담당할 방침이다. 형사6부는 쌍방울 그룹의 대북송금 의혹 등 각종 의혹에 대한 수사를 담당해왔다.
김 전 회장이 받고 있는 혐의는 특정경제범죄가중처벌법상 횡령과 배임, 자본시장법 위반, 뇌물공여 등이다.
한편, 김성태 전 회장은 검찰 수사가 본격화되기 전인 지난해 5월 해외로 출국해 도피 생활을 이어오다 지난 10일 태국 빠툼타니 소재의 한 골프장에서 현지 이민국 검거팀에 의해 붙잡혔다. 당시 양선길 현 쌍방울그룹 회장도 현장에서 함께 검거됐다.
