【브레이크뉴스 울진】이우근 기자=울진군(군수 손병복)은 지난 1일 발생한 기성면 정명리 산불이 방화범의 소행으로 볼 수 있는 정황이 발견됨에 따라 엄중 처벌 방침을 세웠다.

6일 군에 따르면 이번 산불은 오후 10시 32분경 최초 신고되어 자정을 조금 지난 24시 29분 경에 주불이 진화되어 총면적 0.9㏊의 산불 피해를 입혔으며, 산림당국은 주불 진화 후 혹시 모를 재불 방지를 위해 산불진화대 및 공무원 투입하여 잔불 정리를 하였고 다음 날 오전 11시에 뒷불감시 종료를 했다.
이후 산불 발생 원인조사 과정에서 방화범의 흔적을 발견하여 증거자료를 확보하였고 한국산불방지기술협회 산불 현장 전문 감식 진행을 통해 방화로 인한 산불임을 확정했다.
이에 따라 경찰(과학수사부서)에 증거자료에 대한 정밀 조사를 의뢰하였으며 현재 감식이 진행 중이다.
산불방화범은 특정 도구를 사용해 산불이 나중에 발생하도록 장치하여 범행 후 도주 시간을 벌고 불이 잘 붙도록 주변 낙엽을 긁어 모아두는 치밀함을 보였다.
이에 대해 한국산불방지기술협회 전문감식관은“해당 방화범은 산불에 대해 나름 많이 연구한 범죄자로 재범의 소지가 매우 높아 보이며 관련 대책을 세워야 한다”고 밝혔다.
산불방화죄는 산림보호법에 따라 5년 이상 15년 이하의 징역형에 처해지는 중범죄로 경우에 따라 가중처벌도 받을 수 있다.
산림당국은 지난해 대형산불피해의 아픔이 채 가시지 않은 상황에 이러한 산불 방화행위는 절대 용납할 수 없는 범죄행위로 반드시 끝까지 추적해 엄중 처벌하겠다며 범인 검거에 결정적 제보를 주신 분에게는 포상금을 지급할 계획이라고 밝혔다.
