국가철도공단이 탄소중립을 위한 감축 공로를 인정 받았다.
국가철도공단은 24일 ‘2023년 대한민국 녹색기후상’에서 공공부문 우수상을 수상하는 영예를 안았다고 밝혔다.
대한민국 녹색기후상은 국회의원 연구단체인 국회기후변화포럼에서 주관하며 범국민적 기후변화 대응과 지속가능한 탄소중립 사회 추진에 공로가 큰 단체 또는 개인을 격려하기 위해 제정한 기후변화 종합 시상이다.
공단은 철도기관 최초로 4대 전략과 40개 세부 이행과제를 담은 ‘탄소중립 종합 전략’을 마련하고 교통 분야 최초로 호남고속철도 사업을 탄소 감축사업으로 인정받았다.
또 철도 전철화율 90% 달성, 철도자산 활용으로 총 100MW의 신재생에너지 발전설비 구축, 에너지자립률 100%의 탄소 넷제로(Net-Zero) 철도역 건설, 도심지 철길숲 조성을 통한 탄소 흡수 등을 추진하여 정부의 2050 탄소중립 달성을 위한 철도의 역할 강화와 다양한 감축 활동을 전개한 공로를 평가받았다.
김한영 이사장은 “이번 녹색기후상 수상은 2050 탄소중립 실현을 위한 전사적인 노력의 결과”라며, “철도 산업을 이끄는 공공기관으로서 친환경 철도 건설과 저탄소 교통체계 전환에 지속적으로 앞장서겠다“고 밝혔다
