탄주(呑舟) 고범도 서예가. 그는 지난 40년 간 서예 분야에서 작가로서 활동을 해왔다.
'탄주' 서예가는 대한민국서예대전 초대작가-심사위원을 지냈다.
호랑이는 동물 가운데 최고의 위치에 있다. 러시아 연해주를 방문했을 때 그곳 호랑이 연구가는 “호랑이가 생존하려면 산이 두 개쯤은 있어야 한다”고 말했다.
호랑이가 동물계 먹이 사슬의 정점에 서 있다는 이야기이다. 그런데 서울 종로구 인사동에 가면 ‘인간 호랑이(정점에 오른 사람)’들을 가끔씩 만나게 된다. 한국 문화의 정점에 서 있는 분들이다.
지난 3월2일 저녁, 필자의 생각으로는 인사동 서예계(書藝界)의 큰 분, ‘서예계의 인간 호랑이’ 한 분을 만났다. 탄주(呑舟) 고범도 서예가는 전남 고흥출신이다.
고범도 서예가는 지난 2021년 2월4일 새벽 3시쯤, 눈이 쌓인 인사동 도로 위에 붓글씨를 썼다. 눈 위에 붓글씨를 쓴, 이 실행(퍼포먼스)은 세계에서 처음 있는 일이었다. 이날 새벽, 청소원들이 염화칼슘을 뿌려 탄주 서예가님이 썼던 붓글씨는 모두 녹아져 내렸다. 그러나 당시에 촬영했던 눈 위에 붓글씨 쓰기 퍼포먼스의 사진들은 남아있다.

서예-전각분야 뿐만 아니라, 다양한 고미술품을 소장한, 큰 손 소장가이기도 하다. 여러 번의 서예전을 갖고, 지속적으로 서예 작품을 발표해왔다. 서울시 종로구 인사동길 42-8에서 탄주서예-전각연구원을 운영하고 있다.
이날, 탄주(呑舟) 고범도 서예가는 필자에게 흥장(興長=흥하는 사람)이란 글씨를 써 주었다.
