브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 쌍용자동차는 지난 22일 평택 본사에서 개최된 주주총회에서 정용원 대표이사를 비롯한 관련 임직원, 주주 등이 참석한 가운데 KG 모빌리티(KG Mobility)로 사명 변경을 확정했다고 밝혔다.
KG 모빌리티는 1954년 1월 대한민국에서 가장 오랜 역사를 가진 자동차 회사인 하동환자동차제작소로 출발해 1977년 동아자동차, 1988년 쌍용자동차 이후 35년 만의 새 이름으로변경하게 됐다.
KG 모빌리티는 앞으로 새로운 자동차시장의 패러다임 변화에 맞춰 EV 전용 플랫폼, SDV(Software Defined Vehicle), 자율주행차, AI 등 모빌리티 기술분야에 집중해 나갈 계획이다.
사명 변경과 함께 새로운 브랜드 슬로건 ‘Go Different. KG MOBILITY’도 소개했다. 이는 쌍용자동차가 지금껏 달려왔던 길, 앞으로 도전해 나갈 미래 방향성을 담고 있다.
KG 모빌리티는 사명 변경과 함께 인증 중고차 사업과 특장 사업 등 다양한 신규 사업 진출도 계획하고 있다. 인증 중고차 사업은 5년·10만km 이내의 KG 모빌리티(쌍용차) 브랜드 차량을 매입해 성능 검사와 수리를 거쳐 품질을 인증한 중고차를 판매하는 사업으로, 올해 상반기까지 판매와 정비 조직 및 체제 등 사업준비를 완료한 후 하반기부터 본격적으로 사업에 나설 계획이다.
또한, 현재 판매하고 있는 전동 사이드 스텝과 데크탑(Deck-Top) 등 자동차 커스터마이징(Customizing) 용품 사업 강화와 함께 특수 목적의 특장차 제작과 판매 등의 사업을 추진하기 위해 별도 법인을 설립하고 본격적인 사업화를 추진 중이다.
