오태규 소설가가 쓴 “아고니스트 당신 2014”가 최근 출간(아트테라피 출판사)됐다. 이 책은 일기체 수상록이다.
작가가 써 놓은 12권 중에서 ‘아고니스트 당신 2014’가 첫 번째로 출간됐다.
오태규 소설가는 작가의 말에서 “‘아고니스트 당신’은 이명박(MB) 전 대통령이 지난 2008년에 집권하자마자 내가 쓰기 시작한 일종의 난중일기(亂中日記)다. 지난 10여 년 동안, 일테면 2017년에 박근혜 정권이 붕괴되고 문재인 정부가 출범한 이후까지 매일같이 일어났던 일들을 빠짐없이 기록했다. 한 소설가가 ‘질풍노도시대’(疾風怒濤時代)를 살아가면서 보고 느끼고 생각한 것을 낱낱이 증언해놓았다. 오랜 고심 끝에 A4용지 3213쪽에 달하는 이 방대한 기록을 1년씩 한 권의 책으로 만들어서 열두 권을 차례차례 출간하기로 결심했다”고 설명하고 “나에게 소설은 인내요 시는 영감이요 일기는 직관이었다. 나는 한사코 일기체로 글을 썼다. 일기는 직관이 논리와 형식 속에 숨어버리지 않고, 내 생각과 느낌을 솔직히 털어 놓을 수가 있고, 마치 환을 치듯이 사실에는 책임지지 않고, 느낌에 보다 충실한 말을 쏟아놓을 수 있어서 좋았다. 결국 자조문학(自照文學)의 매력에 흠뻑 빠지고 말았다”고 강조했다.
이어 “‘아고니스트 당신’이란 제목을 붙여놓자 부쩍 용기와 의욕이 샘솟았다. ‘아고니스트’(agonist)는 경연(競演), 갈등, 투쟁 등에 투신한 사람이나 문학작품의 주인공을 일컫는 말이다. 나는 ‘내적 갈등으로 고뇌하는 사람’(a person who is torn by inner conflict)이란 뜻으로 썼다. 가장 위대한 아고니스트는 예수였다. 겟세마네에서 그의 고뇌에 찬 기도는 핏방울이었다. 내 글이 가끔 서사와 맥락이 없고 태깔만 고운 ‘추상덩어리’로 변질됐다는 생각이 들었을 때, 자신이 시대와 인간에 대한 불평이나 터뜨리는 ‘게정꾼 혹은 싸움닭’으로 전락한 사람으로 느껴졌을 때 나는 살을 에는 듯한 고통을 느꼈다. 그러나 나의 작가 의식은 기를 쓰고 인간과 사물에 반응했고, 이를 악물고 기록했다”고 피력하고 “가장 하찮은 것, 가벼운 것, 발칙한 것, 어설픈 것, 맞갖잖은 것에서도 삶의 가치와 의미는 얼마든지 캐낼 수 있다고 굳게 믿었다. 이 살아 있는 역사적 증언이 소중한 ‘인간의 정신적 유산’으로 영원히 살아남기를 몽매에도 기원하고 있다”면서 “작가가 성공하기 위해선 prodigy(재능) path-breaking(독창성) patron(후원자)등 3P가 필요하다는 게 평소의 생각”이라고 덧붙였다.

오태규(吳台圭) 소설가의 프로필
전남 순천 출생이다. 조선대 법과를 졸업했다. 고등학교 재학 중에 문교부시행 영어교사시험에 합격했다. 한창때 순천고, 순천대, 단국대 등에서 영어를 가르치면서 자적(自適)했지만 문득 깨달은 바가 있어 소설을 쓰기 시작했다. 1982년 단편 ‘한려수도’가 월간문학소설신인상에 당선되어 작품 활동을 시작한 후, 일상적이고 평범한 것에서 크고 비범한 것을 캐내고 아름다움을 빚어내는 독특한 작품을 선보였다.
중단편소설집 ‘해동머리’(1983), ‘작은 불평의 천국’(1992), ‘물방울 하나의 기록(2005), ‘종생기’(2008), 연작장편소설 ‘우시아로 가는 길(2022), 장편소설 ‘친구 줄리앙’(2023) ‘광장의 눈’(2004), 수상록 ‘클럽방문기’(2021) ‘내가 버린 시대’(2010) ‘완벽한 구멍’(2018) ‘쾌적한 악몽’(1973), 전 20권의 일기체수상록 ‘아고니스트 당신’(2008~2019) 등을 발표했다.
오태규 작품이 주목을 받는 것은 작가의 개성인 문체, 언어에 서식하는 무한한 아름다움을 창조할 수 있는 ‘소설문장의 전범’을 볼 수 있기 때문이다. 때론 추리소설 기법의 치밀한 완결성과 쉬르풍의 실험적이고 탐미적인 작품성이 금상첨화(錦上添花)라는 평가를 받았다.

“Agonist You 2014,” written by novelist Oh Tae-gyu, was recently published (Art Therapy Publishing House). This book is a journal entry. Among the 12 books written by the author, ‘Agonist You 2014’ was published first.
In the author's words, novelist Oh Tae-gyu said, "'Agonist You' is a kind of diary I started writing as soon as former President Lee Myung-bak (MB) came to power in 2008. Over the past 10 years, such as after the collapse of the Park Geun-hye regime in 2017 and the inauguration of the Moon Jae-in government, every day has been recorded without omission. A novelist testified in detail what he saw, felt, and thought while living in the ‘Gale of Storms’. Profile of Novelist Oh Tae-gyu
He was born in Suncheon, South Jeolla Province. He graduated from the Department of Law at Chosun University. While he was in high school, he passed the English teacher test administered by the Ministry of Education.
