【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=경주시는 지역 농산물의 안정적 판로와 지역 청소년들의 안전한 먹거리 제공을 위해 이달 초 효현동 농산물산지유통센터 내 유휴부지에 ‘경주시 학교급식 통합지원센터’ 건립을 위한 공사 착공식을 갖고 본격적인 사업에 나섰다.

18일 시에 따르면 이 사업은 주낙영 시장의 핵심 공약으로 지역에서 생산된 안전하고 우수한 농산물을 지역 내 학교 등 공공급식에 공급해 ‘지역 먹거리 선순환 체계’를 구축한다는 게 골자다.
센터 건립에만 사업비 40억 2000만원이 투입되며, 지상 2층 연면적 1159.27㎡ 규모로 오는 9월 준공 예정이다.
주요 시설로는 1층에는 농산물 검수와 보관을 위한 저온 냉장·냉동시설 등이, 2층에는 사무실과 식생활 교육을 위한 교육실·회의실이 들어선다.
특히 농산물을 차량으로 실고 내릴 수 있는 하역 공간을 최대 15곳까지 조성해, 그간 식재료 공급이 불안정한 소규모 학교도 농산물을 안정적으로 공급받게 될 전망이다.
준공 후에는 물류 시스템 점검 등 준비 과정을 거쳐 오는 11월부터 본격적인 공공급식을 위한 농산물 공급에 나설 계획이다.
지원 대상은 지역 초·중·고·특수학교는 총 83곳에 2만 3582여명, 공공·사립 유치원은 53곳에 2196여명이다.
센터가 본격적인 운영에 들어가면 1일 최대 136개교 2만 5778명분의 공공급식에 들어갈 지역 농산물을 공급하게 된다.
이밖에도 공급가격 안정을 위해 영양교사가 포함된 가격위원회를 운영해 적정가격 산정은 물론 공공급식의 투명성을 제고하고 안전한 먹거리 제공을 위해 공급되는 모든 농산물은 안전성검사를 실시할 계획이다.
주낙영 시장은 “학교급식 통합지원센터를 통해 지역 농산물의 안정적인 판로와 지역 청소년들의 안전한 먹거리 제공이라는 두 마리 토끼를 한꺼번에 잡게 됐다”며“학교급식의 안정화를 조기에 달성하고 이를 기반으로 지역 농산물의 안정적인 판로를 확대해갈 계획”이라고 말했다.

A total of 23,582 people in 83 local elementary, middle, high, and special schools and 2,196 people in 53 public and private kindergartens are eligible for support.
When the center goes into full-scale operation, it will supply local agricultural products for public meals for up to 25,778 people in 136 schools per day.
