브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 송영길 전 더불어민주당 대표가 '전당대회 돈봉투' 의혹과 관련, 24일 오후 귀국한다.
이날 정치권에 따르면 송영길 전 대표는 전날 프랑스 파리에서 한국행 비행기에 탑승했으며 이날 오후 3시경 인천공항에 도착 예정이다.
송영길 전 대표는 지난 22일 프랑스 현지에서 총체적 책임을 지겠다며 조기 귀국 및 탈당을 선언하면서 2021년 전당대회 당시 돈봉투 살포 의혹에 대해선 부인했다.
하지만 검찰은 당시 선거 캠프에서 조직적으로 정치자금 9400만원을 정재계 인사들에게 살포했다는 구체적 정황을 포착하고 혐의 입증에 자신있다는 입장이다.
하지만 송 전 대표는 귀국 직후 검찰의 소환 통보가 있다면, 즉각 이에 응해 의혹을 소상히 밝히겠다는 계획이다. 그는 앞선 기자회견에서 "인천공항에 도착해 상황을 파악한 뒤 바로 당당하게 (검찰 수사에) 대응하겠다"고 밝히기도 했다.

이와함께 정계 은퇴 요구에 대해서도 "저는 정치를 직업이나 생계로 하지 않았다"며 "제가 정치를 한 이유는 학생운동 때와 마찬가지로 민족의 화해와 평화적 통일이라는 사명을 갖고 한 것"이라며 거부 의사도 분명히 했다.

한편 민주당은 지난 23일 권칠승 수석대변인 공식 브리핑을 통해 "송영길 전 대표의 귀국을 계기로 이번 사건의 실체가 일체의 정치적 고려 없이 신속하고 투명하게 규명되길 바란다"면서, 당 차원에서도 향후 대책 마련을 위해 노력하겠다고 전했다.
