충청권 4개 시도가 공동 유치한 2027하계세계대학경기대회(이하 하계U대회) 성공개최를 위해 세종시가 체육시설 건립을 위해 총력을 기울인다고 30일 밝혔다.
세종시는 ‘2027 충청권 하계세계대학경기대회’의 성공개최를 위한 거점시인 ‘세종시(대평동) 종합체육시설’ 건립에 행정력을 집중해 하계U대회가 성공적인 대회가 될 수 있도록 한다는 계획이다.
특히 세종시 종합체육시설은 행정중심복합도시 완성을 위해 세종시 출범 이전부터 국가 차원에서 계획된 지역 사회간접자본(SOC)사업으로 체육 기반기설(인프라) 구축에 따른 생활체육활성화는 물론, 하계세계대학경기대회 성공개최까지 담보할 수 있는 거점시설로 조속한 건립이 절실한 상황이다.
세종시 종합체육시설은 육상경기는 물론, 수구·탁구 경기가 치러지고, 성대한 대회를 마무리하는 폐막식 장소로 활용될 것으로 전망되고 있다.
2만여 석 규모의 종합경기장과 실내체육관, 실내수영장 등으로 구성 계획을 갖고 있는 세종시 종합체육시설 건립을 위해 세종시는 지난해 11월 대회 유치 확정 이후 종합체육시설 건립 기본계획을 재수립했으며, 현재 기획재정부의 타당성 재조사 절차가 진행 중이다.
세종시는 올해 기재부 타당성 재조사 통과와 동시에 행정중심복합도시건설청과 함께 건립사업 발주를 목표로 모든 행정력을 집중하고 있다고 밝혔다.
세종시는 또 건립에는 막대한 재원이 투입되는 만큼 대회 종료 이후에도 지속적으로 사용이 가능한 시설로 활용할 수 있도록 타지역 종합운동장 운영사례를 분석하고 아이디어, 프로그램 등을 발굴할 계획이다.
