강영만 감독은 5월8일 “LA WEBFEST는 2023년 5월 4일부터 5일까지 로스앤젤레스 Barnsdall Gallery Theatre에서 열린 제14회 연례 행사를 마쳤다. 올해의 축제는 전 세계 장편 시리즈, 단편 웹 시리즈, 단편 영화, 파일럿 및 팟 캐스트 중 일부를 선보였다. 올해 축제는 ABC, Netflix, Apple TV 및 LionsGate+와 같은 주요 플레이어의 장편 시리즈를 선보였다. 'See'의 Jason Momoa, 'Somewhere Between'의 Paula Patton, Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson이 제작한 인기 범죄 드라마 "BMF"를 만든 Randy Huggins가 포함되었다”고 전하고 “남우주연상은 'Somewhere Between'의 데본 사와가, 여우주연상은 KT 스튜디오 지니가 제작한 장편 시리즈 ‘아무것도 하고 싶지 않아'의 가수 겸 배우 김설현이 수상했다. 그외 한국작품은 신성훈 감독의 '고희정, 한복을 말하다'가 베스트 리얼리티 트레일러 상을 수상했다. 'Eddie and the Cruisers'와 'Street of Fire'와 같은 80년대 히트작으로 유명한 배우 Michael Pare가 단편 영화 'The Curse of 스톤힐'로 남우 주연상을 수상했다. 모든 장르의 숏폼 부문 베스트 웹 시리즈는 'Hammersmith, 베스트 롱폼 시리즈는 'BMF'가 수상했다. Michael Ajakwe는 2009년에 LA WEBFEST를 설립하여 특별히 웹 시리즈에 전념하는 최초의 국제 축제가 되었다. 그 이후로 이 축제는 전 세계 네트워크를 형성하는 50개 이상의 웹 페스트와 함께 성장했다”고 알렸다,
이어 “안타깝게도 마이클은 2018년에 세상을 떠났지만 강영만 신임 감독을 통해 계속 이어지고 있다”고 밝혔다. 프랑스 마르세유 웹 페스트 창립자인 장 미셸 알베르트 명예회장은 “유튜브, OTT 플랫폼, 소셜미디어의 급속한 성장과 함께 웹 시리즈 페스티벌도 지속적으로 늘어나고 있다”고 덧붙였다.

Director Kang Young-man said on May 8, “LA WEBFEST concluded its 14th annual event held at the Barnsdall Gallery Theater in Los Angeles on May 4-5, 2023. This year's festival featured some of the world's feature series, short web series, short films, pilots and podcasts. This year's festival featured feature series from major players such as ABC, Netflix, Apple TV and LionsGate+. Jason Momoa for 'See', Paula Patton for 'Somewhere Between' and Randy Huggins for the hit crime drama "BMF" produced by Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson.” Sawaga and Best Actress were awarded to Kim Seol-hyun, a singer and actor in the feature-length series 'I don't want to do anything' produced by KT Studio Genie. Other Korean films, 'Go Hee-jung, Talking about Hanbok' directed by Shin Seong-hun, won the Best Reality Trailer Award. Actor Michael Pare, known for '80s hits like 'Eddie and the Cruisers' and 'Street of Fire', won the Best Actor Award for his performance in the short film 'The Curse of Stone Hill'. 'Hammersmith' won the best web series in the short form category of all genres, and 'BMF' won the best long form series. Michael Ajakwe founded LA WEBFEST in 2009 to become the first international festival dedicated specifically to web series. Since then, the festival has grown with more than 50 webfests forming a worldwide network.”
“Unfortunately, Michael passed away in 2018, but it continues through new director Kang Young-man.” “With the rapid growth of YouTube, OTT platforms, and social media, the number of web series festivals is continuously increasing,” added Jean-Michel Albert, honorary chairman and founder of Marseille Web Fest in France.
