[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 함안 의곡사지 출토 금동불상 5점이 ‘명작 : 흙 속에서 찾은 불교문화-신라 절터 발굴 유물 속보전’ 전시를 통해 최초로 공개된다.
국립경주문화재연구소와 불교중앙박물관·불교문화재연구소가 주최하는 이번 전시는 11일부터 오는 6월 25일까지 45일간 불교중앙박물관 3전시실에서 진행되며 함안 의곡사지 출토 금동불상을 비롯한 신라 사찰 출토품 100여 점이 전시된다.
개막식에는 조근제 군수를 비롯해 최응천 문화재청장, 윤성용 국립중앙박물관장, 김연수 국립문화재연구원장, 박상수 삼척시장, 김진열 군위군수, 황인호 국립경주문화재연구소장, 관계자 등 50여명이 참석했다.
이날 행사는 성민 스님의 진행으로 삼귀의·반야심경을 봉독으로 시작됐으며, 조근제 함안군수는 함안 의곡사지 발굴조사에 대한 적극적인 지원으로 함안의 불교문화유산 보존에 기여한 공로를 인정받아 감사패를 받았다.
한편, 함안군과 불교문화재연구소에서 추진하는 함안 의곡사지 발굴조사는 문화재청에서 2013년부터 기획재정부 복권기금의 지원을 받아 진행하는 ‘중요폐사지 시·발굴조사’ 사업에 선정되어 지난 2021년부터 조사에 착수했다.
조사과정에서 사찰의 규모를 추정할 수 있는 계단식 석축과 건물지 등이 확인됐으며 사찰명을 알 수 있는 ‘의곡사’명 와편을 비롯해 통일신라부터 고려시대에 이르는 사찰의 중심 운영시기와 사격을 짐작할 수 있는 금동불상, 청동소탑편, 철제 종 등 많은 유물이 출토됐다.
함안군 관계자는 “이번 전시를 통해 함안 의곡사지 발굴조사 성과를 대중에 공유할 수 있게 된 것은 매우 좋은 기회”며 “함안의 불교문화 연구에 대한 관심을 드높이고 보다 심층적인 학술조사를 추진할 수 있는 계기가 되기를 바란다”고 밝혔다.
