동학농민혁명 129주년 행사가 2023년 5월 11일 정읍 황토현 소재 동학농민혁명 기념공원에서 각계인사와 군민이 참석한 가운데 열렸다. 이날은 2019년 동학농민혁명 법정기념일이 제정되고 처음 지방에서 열린 행사라는 점에서 의미가 각별했다.
<1894년, 그날을 기억하다>라는 행사 구호로 진행한 이날 10시에는 사전 행사로 김준우 작가의 참여형 포토월 「바림」, 20여 개의 다양한 체험 부스, 추모관에서는 헌화 행사가 각각 진행됐다.
공식 오프닝 행사에서, 극단 성남93 공연, <하늘을 보라 세상을 보라>가 공연됐다. 동학농민혁명 지도자 전봉준이 법정의 심문에 답한 재판 기록인 ‘전봉준 공초’를 재구성한 퍼포먼스로, 관객을 동학농민혁명사 한가운데로 불러 모았다.

동학농민군 편지 낭독에서는 동학농민혁명 당시 한달문의 편지를 후손 한승구(동학농민혁명 참여자 한달문의 증손자)가, 유광화의 편지를 유상영(동학농민혁명 참여자 유광화 증손자)이 낭독하여 당시 나라를 위해 몸을 바친 동학농민군의 아픔을 전했다.
