오는 5월27일은 불탄절. 불탄절 1주일 전인 5월20일 저녁. 불교 단체들은 서울 종로통에서 화려하고 다양한 제등 축제를 벌였다. 불교가 한국에 전래된 이후 인쇄술이 발달되지 않아 교리를 필사해서 전하는 경전의 발행이 이어졌다.
5월20일, 불교 경전 필사본을 500여점, 창간호 월간지-신문 3,000여 종을 소장한, 컬렉터 김형중(66세) 박사를 만났다. 문화재급 불교 경전을 그렇게 많이 소장한 개인은 드물 것. 그래서 아주 중요한 인물을 만났다. 또한 잡지-신문 창간호 소장도 최다 소장자랄 수 있다. 이런 분들이 "대한민국=문화강국을 만들어온 선각자"라고 생각한다.

김형중 박사는 3년 전 동국대학교 사범대학부속 여고 교장선생으로 재임하다 은퇴하신 교육자 출신이다.
"월급타면 불교 경전-창간호 사 모으기에 바빴다."
이 분은 문학평론가-문학박사-동국대학교 경영대학원 강의교수로 문화계의 유명인사. 지난 15년 간 불교계 여러 주간신문들의 논설위원으로도 활약, 불교문화의 사회화 확장을 위해 헌신해왔다.
유정염 문화재청 문화재 전문위원은 불교 경전에 대해 "우리에게 전하는 불교경전들 중 무구정광다라니경 목판본이 가장 오래된 것이라 할 수 있고 금속활자도 있으며, 이후에 붓글씨로 필사하여 전하는 경전들이 국보로 보물로 지정하여 보존하고 있다."고 말했다.
