월성원자력본부, 바다의 날 맞이 비치코밍 봉사활동 펼쳐

【브레이크뉴스 】박희경 기자=월성원자력본부(본부장 김한성)는 바다의 날을 맞아 지난 30일 경주 감포읍 오류2리 고아라해변에서 해안길 비치코밍(beachcombing) 봉사활동을 시행했다고 31일 밝혔다.

비치코밍이랑 바다를 뜻하는 비치(beach)와 빗질을 뜻하는 코밍(combing)의 합성어로 해변을 빗질하듯 훑으며 바다 표류물이나 쓰레기를 주워 정화하는 환경보호운동을 말한다.

월성본부는 지난 5월 10일 성공적인 비치코밍을 위해 경주시, 포항 해경과 함께 업무 협약을 체결한 바 있다.

이날 봉사활동에는 월성본부 직원, 경주시 자원봉사센터 봉사자, 포항해경 직원 GB대학사회봉사단 2개 대학(경주 서라벌대학교, 영주 경북전문대학) 학생 등 약 200여명이 참가했다.

참가자들은 고아라해변을 출발해 송대말등대를 거쳐 감포항에 이르는 약 3km의 해안길(해파랑길)을 걸으며 해변에 흩어진 쓰레기를 수거하는 정화활동을 펼쳤다. 이날 봉사활동에서 봉사자들은 약 2톤 가량의 쓰레기를 수거했다.

또한 비치코밍 봉사활동 후 모든 봉사자들은 월성본부 온배수 양식 어류로 만든 회무침으로 점심식사를 하며 원전 온배수의 청정성과 안전성을 확인하는 시간을 가졌다.

김한성 본부장은 “바다의 날을 맞아 동해안을 깨끗하게 정화하는 비치코밍행사에 참가한 모든 봉사자에게 감사드린다”며 “원자력발전소뿐만 아니라 우리 인류가 바다로부터 얻는 혜택이 무궁무진한 만큼 청정 바다를 유지하는데 앞으로도 깊은 관심을 기울여달라”고 당부했다.
