20년 넘게 인물 인터뷰와 저술 활동을 병행해온 김명수 작가의 24번째 저서이자 첫 단독시집인 ‘마음창고를 짓고 싶다’가 출판(와일즈북 출판사)됐다.
출판사측은 “인물전문 기자 겸 중견 작가인 김명수 씨의 시집 '마음창고를 짓고 싶다'가 독자들의 관심을 끌며 출간 1주일 만에 대형 서점 진열대의 베스트시집 코너에 올랐다. ‘마음창고를 짓고 싶다’는 20년 넘게 인물인터뷰와 저술 활동을 병행해온 김명수 저자의 24번째 저서이자 첫 단독시집”이라고 전하고 “'천명의 삶을 가진 김명수 시집'이라는 부제가 붙은 이 책(와일즈북刊)은 지난 5월 20일 서점에 깔린 최신작이다. 출간 1주일 전부터 온라인 서점에서 사전 예매로 독자들의 관심을 끌어온 이 책은 출간 첫주 강남 교보 베스트 시집 코너 하단에 진열됐다. 출간 2주째인 지난 5월29일 현재 ‘마음창고’ 시집은 강남 교보문고 시집 코너(G3)에서도 독자들의 눈에 가장 잘 띄는 최상단 중앙부분에 올라있다. 강남 영풍문고에도 6월1일 출입구 진열대(A1-2) 상단에 올라있다”고 소개했다.
저자인 김명수 작가는 국내외를 넘나들며 각계인물 1천명 이상을 인터뷰하여 '1천명의 삶을 가진 한사람'이라는 닉네임을 가진 인물. '마음창고를 짓고 싶다'는 짧고 간결하게 압축 묘사한 기사와 인물이 시라는 날개를 달고 한데 어우러져 등장한다. 2020년 우연히 시라는 친구를 접한 이후 겁 없이 시를 써왔다.
작가는 “덕담 삼아 던진 베테랑 시인의 칭찬 한마디에 우쭐해진 저자는 자칭 시인이라는 착각에 빠져 본격적으로 시 작업에 매달렸다. 끓어오르는 열정을 주체할 수 없어 시를 쓰면서도 시가 고팠다. 생각의 물레방아는 걷잡을 수 없이 돌아가고 왕초보 주제에 엉뚱한 욕심까지 발동하여 색다른 시가 쓰고 싶어졌다. 문단을 지배하는 기존의 시와는 다른 색깔의 옷을 입히고 싶었다. 형식도, 장르도 전혀 새로운 시가 그렇게 탄생했다. 집밖으로 뛰쳐나가 길거리를 걸어 다니면서 발길 닿는 대로 시를 썼다”면서 “각계각층의 다양한 사람들과 대화를 나누면서 시를 쓰고, 대중교통을 타고 이동하면서 눈길 머무는 대로 시를 썼다. 수필같은 시를 잉태하고, 시가 아닌 시가 밀물처럼 넘쳐흘렀다. 언제 어디서나 마음가는 대로 즉흥적이고 한 점 망설임 없이 시를 썼다. 판타지가 시라는 날개를 달고 등장하는 등 파계승 같은 시가 장소와 시간을 불문하고 쏟아져 나왔다”고 고백한다.

저자 김명수 작가는 인터넷신문 ‘인물뉴스닷컴’을 운영하면서 인물인터뷰전문기자 겸 작가로 활동하고 있다. 대전일보, 서울신문, 세계일보, 경향신문 편집기자, 경향닷컴 편집국장을 거쳐 2016년 8월까지 뉴스통신사 뉴시스 전국부 편집위원을 역임했다. 2000년 피플코리아를 창간하여 운영하다가 2013년부터 인물뉴스닷컴을 창간하여 운영해오고 있다.
영화 ‘실미도’의 토대가 된 684부대 다큐멘터리 시리즈를 2001년 1년간 연재했고 그동안 국내외를 돌며 1000명이 넘는 인물을 심층 인터뷰했다.
