브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 원희룡 국토교통부 장관은 6일 '서울~양평 고속도로' 사업 추진을 전면 중단하고 윤석열 정부 내에 결정된 모든 사항을 백지화 하겠다고 발표했다.
그는 사업 추진과 관련해 어떠한 청탁이나 압력을 받아 결정한 사항은 없었다면서 장관직 뿐 아니라 정치생명까지도 걸 수 있다고 말했다.
더불어민주당 등 야권에서 고속도로 노선 종점 변경과 관련해 윤석열 대통령 부인 김건희 여사 일가에 특혜를 주기 위한 게 아니냐는 의혹을 끊임없이 제기하자, '정공법'으로 이를 돌파하겠다는 의지로 읽혀진다.
원희룡 장관은 이날 오전 국회 소통관에서 열린 국민의힘과의 당정 협의회 직후 브리핑을 갖고 "국토부 장관으로서, 정부 의사결정권자로서 말씀드린다. 서울~양평 고속도로에 대해서 노선 검토뿐만 아니라 도로 개설사업 추진 자체를 이 시점에서 전면 중단하고, 이 정부에서 추진됐던 모든 사항을 백지화하겠다"고 밝혔다.
원 장관은 "제가 노선 결정 과정에서 김선교 전 의원이 양평 나들목을 만들어달라는 것을 상임위에서 검토하겠다고 한 것 외에 더 구체적으로 노선에 관여한 사실이 있다면, 권력층이든 의원이든 민간이든 연락이나 청탁 압력을 받은 사실이 있다면, 제 휘하 업무 관여자들에게 구체적으로 보고받거나 지시받은 게 있다면 저는 장관직을 걸 뿐만 아니라 정치생명을 걸겠다"고 강조했다.
그는 특히 김건희 일가를 위해 노선을 변경했다는 의혹을 제기하고 있는 민주당을 겨냥해 작심 발언을 쏟아냈다.
원 장관은 "이 노선이 정말 필요하고 최종 노선이 있다면 다음 정부에서 하라"면서 "의혹을 제기하는 사람이 처음부터 노선 결정 과정에 관여하길 바란다. 그 과정에서 나중에 열심히 실무적으로 일한 공무원만 골탕먹이지 말라"고 일침을 놨다.
