【브레이크뉴스 포항】박희경 기자=포항특정경비지역사령부(이하 포특사)는 14일 도솔관에서 2023년 6ㆍ25전쟁 전사자 발굴유해 영결식을 거행했다고 밝혔다.

포항특정경비지역사령관 임성근 소장 주관으로 진행된 영결식은 최명환 포항시 복지국장, 김지현 경북남부보훈지청장, 국방부 유해발굴 감식단, 포특사 예하부대가 참석한 가운데 국가와 국민을 위해 희생한 호국영령들의 숭고한 넋을 기렸다.
이번 유해발굴작전은 5월 15일부터 7월 7일까지 약 8주간 포항시 북구 기계면 어래산 142고지 일대에서 진행되었으며, 부대는 일일 128명의 병력을투입한 결과 부분유해 1구, 유품 489점을 발굴했다.
포항시 기계면 어래산 142고지 일대는 6ㆍ25전쟁 당시 낙동강 방어선 전투의 마지막 방어전인 기계-안강 방어 전투가 있었던 지역으로 약 한 달간 치열한 전투 끝에 수많은 전사자가 발생한 곳이다.
유해발굴작전에 투입되는 장병들은 현장 중심의 요목식 전사 교육을 통해작전의 숭고한 의미를 미리 학습하고,호국영령들을 예우하는 경건한 자세로 작전에 임했다.
이날 영결식은 개식사, 유해발굴 경과보고, 추모사 낭독, 종교의식, 헌화 및 분향, 묵념 및 조총발사, 호국영령께 대한 경례, 유해 운구 및 봉송 순으로 진행됐다.
포항특정경비지역사령관 임성근 소장은 추모사에서 “자랑스러운 대한민국에서이 시대를 살아가는 우리의 삶은 호국영령들의 숭고한 희생의 결과이다”라며“국가방위의 사명을 완수하고 이 땅의 자유민주주의를 반드시 지켜낼 것을 약속드린다”라고 말했다.
이번 작전에 참가한 장병 중 6ㆍ25전쟁 참전용사의 후손인 포병여단원찬 일병은 “이번 작전을 통해 6ㆍ25전쟁에서 희생하신 할아버지의 전우를찾을 수있는 뜻깊은 기회를 갖게 되어 영광이었다”며 “할아버지의 숭고한 희생정신을 이어받아 자랑스러운 해병으로서 대한민국의 자유와 평화를 지키기위해 노력하겠다”며 소감을 말했다.
원찬 일병의 할아버지 원흥순 씨는6ㆍ25전쟁 당시 육군 7사단 소속으로 의정부전투, 낙동강전투 등에 참전한바있다.
한편 포특사는 지난 2004년부터 지금까지 약 20년간 유해발굴작전을 지속 실시해오며, 호국영령이 최고의 예우 속에 유가족의 품에 돌아갈 수 있도록 최선을 다하고 있다.
포특사는 지난해에도 같은 지역에서 10월 4일부터 11월 4일까지 약 5주간 유해발굴작전을 실시하여 완전유해 1구, 부분유해 7구, 유품 493점을 발굴한바있다.
