축제명은 '의령 메밀꽃 필 무렵'으로 의령의 낭만적이고 향토적인 자연환경에 더해 의령만의 특별한 음식인 메밀국수의 맛을 전국에 뽐내자는 것이 이번 제안의 배경이다.
군은 '직원 소통·공감의 날'을 맞이해 공무원의 참신한 생각을 군정에 반영하고자 지난 6월 한 달간 아이디어 공모전을 개최했다.
의령군 관광·축제 활성화 방안, 대표 시설물 개선 방안 등 의령군 발전 방안에 대한 폭넓은 주제로 제안을 받은 결과, 모두 33건이 접수됐으며 이중 최우수 1건, 우수 5건이 선정됐다.
최우수는 기획예산담당관의 '의령 메밀꽃 필 무렵' 축제 개최가 뽑혔다.
의령은 메밀국수의 본고장으로 자급률을 높여 지역에서 메밀이 재배될 수 있도록 대량 생산에 나서고 아름다운 메밀꽃을 배경으로 메밀을 소재로 한 음식이 어우러지는 축제를 열자는 것이 핵심이다.
