The minimum wage in 2024 is 9,860 won.. Both the boss and part-timer are ‘dissatisfied’
Prospects for changes in the job search environment... Effective in reducing working hours and reducing employment
Break News Reporter Moon Hong-cheol= It was found that both the part-timer and the president were not satisfied with the decision to set the minimum wage at 9860 won per hour in 2024.
According to Alba Heaven on the 24th, as a result of a survey on satisfaction with the minimum wage in 2024 for 1371 part-timers and 115 presidents, more than half of the part-timers, 52.6% and 74.8% of the presidents, were dissatisfied.
In particular, in the case of part-timers, △10s 47.6% △20s 48.1% △30s 60.3% △40s 66.2% △50s and older 69.2%, the higher the age group, the higher the dissatisfaction rate.
The biggest reasons for dissatisfaction among part-timers were “not being able to exceed the minimum hourly wage of 10,000 won (61.7%)” and “because the increase rate and amount were less than they had hoped for (45.9%)”. It is interpreted as dissatisfaction with the second-lowest inflation rate in history, which does not even reach the inflation rate.
The reason for the dissatisfaction of the bosses was the ‘impression’ itself. 77.9% of respondents said, “I hoped for a freeze or a reduction, but it was raised,” and 23.3% said, “The price was raised higher than expected.”
57.8% of part-timers predicted that the working environment would change due to the minimum wage increase. Specifically, ‘increase in monthly salary’ was the most common (23.6%), △reduction of working hours (19.5%) △reduction in the number of co-workers (14.5%) △deterioration of treatment and working environment (13.0%) △increase in product and service prices (11.7%), etc.
In the case of teenagers and 20s, the response rate for ‘monthly wage increase’ was the highest at 30.0% and 25.7%, but for those in their 30s, ‘deteriorating treatment and environment (24.6%)’, and for those in their 40s and 50s, ‘reduction of working hours’ was the most cited at 32.1% and 23.8%, respectively.
Part-time job seekers responded more strongly to the impact of the minimum wage increase. 75.5% of 956 people answered that there would be a change in the part-time job search environment, and the biggest reason was the increase in split part-time jobs (32.3%) due to a decrease in working hours.
Next, △decrease in part-time jobs (23.8%) △increase in competition for part-time jobs (18.7%) △increase in low-quality part-time jobs (8.4%) △increase in job search for N jobs (8.0%) △increase in short-term part-time jobs (7.6%).
Four out of five presidents (78.4%) also predicted that the employment and business environment would be affected. The biggest change was a decrease in operating profit due to an increase in labor costs (62.6%), △ a decrease in the number of part-time job hires and number of employees (60.4%) △ an increase in part-time part-time job hires (51.6%) △ an increase in working hours (50.5%) △ an increase in the unit price of products and services due to labor cost burden (48.4%) △ a decrease in part-time job welfare (40.7%) △ consideration of business suspension, closure, etc. (38.5%) △ short-term Part-time job recruitment increased (33.0%), etc.
