23일 경주시에 따르면 해수부의 해양레저관광 거점 사업은 전국을 수도권과 서해안권, 다도해권, 동해안권 등 7개 권역으로 나눠 증가하는 해양레저관광 수요에 부응하기 위한 국책사업이다.
이번 공모에는 경주시를 비롯해 울산 동구, 충남 보령시, 경남 창원시에서 신청하여 사업계획 프리젠테이션, 사업 타당성, 현장 실사 등을 거쳤으며 경주시는 대면 및 현장 평가에서 우수성을 인정받아 최종 선정됐다.
경주시의 해양레저관광 거점 ‘신라오션킹덤’ 조성사업은 ▲해양레저 지원센터 ▲사계절 실내 레저체험센터 ▲용을 모티브로 한 해양레저 체험길인 용오름길 ▲우리나라 최초, 최대의 바다 해수풀장인 고라섬풀장 ▲바다 속에서 조각 작품을 즐길 수 있는 문무대왕 해양조각공원 ▲수상레저 특화 체험장인 나정 수상 레저 체험장 ▲해변 휴식공간인 만파식적 공원 등 7개 사업으로 총 사업비 490억을 투자하여 2027년에 완공될 초대형 국책 해양레저 사업이다.
주낙영 시장은 이번 사업의 유치를 위해 직접 기획부터 대면평가 발표자로 나서는 등 선정되기 까지 전 과정을 진두지휘 했으며, 지역 출신의 김석기 국회의원도 국회예산 심의과정에서는 예산편성을 주도하는 등 경주가 선정될 수 있도록 전폭적인 지원을 아끼지 않았다.
시는 본 사업을 통해 상대적으로 낙후된 감포지역을 포함하여 문무대왕면, 양남면의 지역경제 활성화에 새로운 활력을 불어넣고, 풍부한 관광 인프라와 역사문화자원, 우수한 접근성 등 경북을 넘어 우리나라 최고의 해양레저관광 명소가 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
특히 감포 나정에서 문무대왕릉에 이르는 일대에는 이번 공모에 확정된 ‘해양레저관광 거점단지’ 뿐만 아니라, 이미 ‘선부해양역사공원’, ‘문무대왕 해양역사관’, ‘문무대왕 성역화 사업’ 등이 조성되고 있어, 청소년들의 해양교육, 해양역사체험, 해양레저관광 등으로 이어지는 해양 에듀테인(교육,오락,관광) 벨트로 자리 잡을 전망이다.
또한 황리단길 등 시내권과 불국사권, 보문관광단지권을 찾는 국내.외 관광객들이 대거 동해권으로 유입될 것으로 전망하고 있다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “이번 공모사업 선정으로 경주에도 바다가 있다는 것을 국민들께 확실하게 각인시켰다며, 우리나라를 대표하는 해양레저관광거점이 될 수 있도록 모든 역량을 집중하겠다.”고 포부를 전했다.
