이번 ‘행복한 영어학교’ 프로그램은 경상북도 교육청 지원사업으로 경주, 포항, 영천 지역의 약 700명의 초등학생들이 신청하여 최종 150명을 선정했다.
교육수요자의 다양한 의견을 프로그램에 반영해 2주간 매일 3시간씩 레벨테스트를 통한 수준별 10개의 분반을 구성하여 다양한 주제에 따라 활동 중심의 생활영어 수업을 진행했다.
수업은 동국대 WISE캠퍼스 교양융합교육원 외국어교육부 소속 외국인 교수들과 WISE캠퍼스 재학생들로 이루어진 보조강사(TA)들이 한 그룹을 형성해 진행했으며 참가 학생 및 학부모를 대상으로 만족도 조사를 통해 지속적으로 프로그램을 개선해 나갈 계획이다.
동국대 WISE캠퍼스 최정자 교양융합교육원장은 “행복한 영어학교는 지역의 초등학생들이 놀이를 통해 영어를 배울 수 있는 프로그램으로 기획되었다”며 “이를 통해 지역 초등학생들이 영어에 대한 자신감을 가지고 긴 여름방학을 알차게 보내고 글로벌 인재로 거듭날 수 있기를 기대한다“고 말했다.
