본지(브레이크뉴스)는 한설 전 육군 군사연구소장이 페이스북에 올린 글을 기사화 했다. 지난 8월14일자 “한설 전 소장, 이재명을 버리지 않으면 민주당은 가망이 없다” 제목의 기사에서 “국제정세는 급변하고 있는데 한국정치는 퇴행하고 있다.”면서 “그 퇴행의 중심에 이재명이 있고 여전히 문재인이 그 뒤에서 똬리를 틀고 있다.”고 소개했다.
한설 전 소장은 이 글에서 “호남은 영남 사이비 개혁세력에게 식민지(植民地)가 된 것이다. 호남의 일부 정치세력들은 영남 사이비 개혁세력에게 부역을 하고 이권(떡고물)을 받아먹으면서 호남 전체를 팔아먹었다.”고 지적(指摘)했다.
한국의 민주주의란 아슬아슬하게 투쟁의 칼날 위에 세워진 '기적(奇蹟)' 같은 것이랄 수 있다. 그 과정에서 김대중 전 대통령을 비롯한 출중한 호남출신 정치인들이 함께 담합-투쟁 했었다. 이런 분들은 대한민국=민주주의의 기념비적 인물들이다. 그런데, 과거의 총선에선 '공천'이란 이름으로 이런 분들 대다수를 고려장(高麗葬=고려시대, 살아 있는 나이든 분들을 굴속에 가둬 사망하게 했던 장례식) 시켰었다.
전남의 '광주(光州)'란 지명에도 의미가 있지만, 호남정신의 결집을 의미하는 단어라 할 수 있다. 오 광주! 그런데 “호남이 영남의 식민지”라고, 비아냥거림을 받는 것은 광주(光州)가 일부 사욕(私慾) 세력들의 손을 들어준 결과이기 때문이다.
필자는 기자-신문사 오너로 일해 오면서 직-간접적으로 교유해온 친(親)호남 정치인들이, 다수 있다. 무순으로 열거하면-한화갑, 권노갑, 박지원, 정동영, 박주선, 유준상, 정세균, 이영일, 이낙연, 김경재, 김옥두. 신순범, 이윤석, 주승용, 김홍업, 박준영, 신중식, 장성민, 최경환, 문학진, 이영호, 한영애, 김덕룡, 등등이다. 정치 원로 또는 중견 정치인들인 셈이다.
다가오는 2024년 4월10일 총선. 필자는 세속말로, 지난 세월에 고려장 당했던 호남출신 정치 원로들에게 가해졌던 탄압(彈壓)을 걷어내는 일이 화급(火急)함을 지적한다. 대한민국=민주주의 국가를 구축했던 시대정신을 이끌어왔던 원로정치인들을 재활용해야 한다. 그리하여 대한민국=민주주의 국가로 더 보강하는, 웅대한 임무를 그 분들에게 안겨줄 수 있다고 생각한다. 정치 원로들에게는 대한민국=민주주의 국가를 축조한 공훈이 있다. 이 분들 가운데는 국회의원도 있고, 전직 총리-도지사도 있다. 또는 정치적으로 의원직 등 고위직에 오르지 않았더라도, 대한민국=민주주의 건립에 삶을 투척했던 정치인들이 많다. 이런 분들이 재(再) 운집돼야 한다. 대한민국=민주주의 국가의 완성을 위해서라도 재(再) 결집을 서둘러야 한다. 그리고 원로 정치인들에게는 스스로 결집하는 능동적인 정치활동이 필요한 듯하다.
그간 '광주'는 여러 가지 이유를 열거하면서 호남출신 정치인들을 소외시켰다. 지난 대선 전, 광주는 영남출신 대선후보를 만들기 위해 호남출신 이낙연을 도태시켰다. 이것은 광주가 남긴 폐착(敗着)의 흔적이었다.
이 기회에 광주는 광주의 폐착(敗着=바둑에서, 그곳에 돌을 놓았기 때문에 결과적으로 그 판에서 지게 된 아주 나쁜 수)을 이제라도 인식, 호남출신 원로 정치인들이 정치에 기여할 수 있는 길을 열어주는데 인색해서는 안 된다. 원로 정치인들 모두에게는 젊은 정치인들에게서 볼 수 없는 지혜(知慧)가 있다. 그런 지혜들이 모아져서 강한 국가 건설에 쓰여 져야 한다.
광주는, 영남 출신 군인들이 주도했던 군부정권이 광주의 아스팔트 위에서 광주인들의 몸에 총격(銃擊)을 가했음을 잊지 말아야 한다. 1980년 5.18 때 광주는 핏빛이었다. 지독한 지역감정으로 영남들에게 홀대 받았던 호남은 그 혹독했던 차별을 한시라도 잊어선 곤란하다.
호남은 영남의 식민지라고 놀림 받았던 과거에서 탈피해야 한다. “호남이 영남의 식민지”라는 이상야릇한 말들을 믿는 이들에게 “영남이 호남의 식민지”임을 보여줄 차례이다. 목적 달성을 위해서는 거대(巨大)하게 뭉쳐야만 한다. 김대중 정권 때 권력 유지에 참여했던 정치의 고급기술자들이 재결합하기를 기대한다.
대한민국 민주주의 심장인 '광주'여, 미몽(迷夢)에서 깨어나시라. 김대중 이후 호남=불임정당을 지원해온 '광주'여, 호남 권력의 재탈환을 위해 미몽에서 깨어나시라. 최후의 일각(一角)까지, 호남인들의 웅혼(雄渾)이 후회 없이 불태워지기를 제안한다. moonilsuk@naver.com
