31일 취임 1주년을 맡은 이재명 더불어민주당 대표가 이같이 말하며 무기한 단식을 선언했다.
이재명 대표는 이날 국회에서 열린 당대표 취임 1주년 기자회견에서 "윤석열 정권이 대한민국의 헌정질서와 민주주의를 파괴하고 있다. 국민과 함께 지켜내기 위해 맨 앞에 서서 사즉생의 각오로 무기한 단식에 들어간다"고 밝혔다.
그는 "대한민국이, 또 국민의 삶이 이렇게 무너진 데는 저의 책임이 가장 크다. 퇴행적 집권을 막지 못했고, 정권의 무능과 폭주를 막지 못했다. 그 책임을 제가 져야 한다고 생각해왔다"면서 "마지막 수단으로서 오늘부터 무기한 단식을 시작한다"고 목소리를 높였다.
이 대표는 윤석열 정권에 요구하는 점에 대해선 ▲대국민 사과와 국정방향 전환 ▲오염수 방류 국제해양재판소 제소 ▲국정쇄신과 개각 등을 제시했다.
그는 "윤석열 대통령은 민생파괴 민주주의 훼손에 대해 국민께 사죄하고 국정방향을 국민 중심으로 바꿔야 한다"며 "일본 핵 오염수 방류에 반대 입장을 천명하고 국제해양재판소에 제소하라. 전면적 국정쇄신과 개각을 단행하라"고 주장했다.
이어 그는 "대통령은 나라를 다스리고 국민을 지배하는 왕이 아니라 주권자의 대리인, 충직한 일꾼이어야 한다"라며 "대통령과 정권은 국민과 싸울 것이 아니라 국민을 위해 싸워야 한다"고 강조했다.

그는 이태원 참사 사태도 언급하며 "아무 잘못도 없는 국민 159명이 백주대낮에 정부의 잘못으로 어이없이 목숨을 잃었다"며 "어떤 책임도 지지않고 사과조차 않는 무능하고 뻔뻔한 정부로 인해, 국민은 ‘무정부 상태’를 ‘각자도생’하며 버티고 있다"고도 했다.
