브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 김정은 북한 국무위원장이 9월 중 러시아를 방문해 푸틴 대통령과 무기 공급 관련 논의를 할 계획이라고 미국 뉴욕타임스(NYT)가 보도했다.
4일(현지시간) 뉴욕타임스는 정부 고위 관계자의 말을 인용해 김정은 위원장이 9월 중 평양에서 장갑열차를 타고 러시아 블라디보스토크로 이동해 푸틴 대통령과 만날 것으로 보인다고 발표했다.
두 정상은 오는 10~13일 블라디보스토크 극동연방대학에서 열리는 동방경제포럼(EEF)에 참석할 것으로 보이며 김 위원장은 러시아 태평양 함대 해군 함정들이 정박해 있는 33번 부두에도 방문할 것으로 예상된다고 했다.
김 위원장은 이번 방러를 통해 러시아에 포탄과 대전차 미사일 등의 지원을 약속할 것으로 보이며 러시아는 그 댓가로 인공위성, 핵잠수함 기술 등을 제공할 것으로 예상된다고 전했다. 북한은 또한 식량 지원 등을 요구할 가능성도 있다고 전했다.
백악관에서는 이같은 정부관계자의 발언에 대해 사실 여부를 공식 확인해주지 않고 있다.
다만 에이드리언 왓슨 미국 백악관 국가안보회의(NSC) 대변인은 이날 성명을 통해 "러시아와 북한 간 무기 협상이 적극적으로 진전되고 있다는 점을 우리는 앞서 공개적으로 경고했다"면서 "김정은 위원장이 러시아 고위급 외교 라인 등을 통해 논의를 계속해왔다는 정보를 갖고 있다"고 설명했다.
백악관은 지난 7월 북한의 '전승절'인 6·25전쟁 정전협정 체결일(7월27일) 70주년을 맞아 세르게이 쇼이구 러시아 국방장관이 북한을 방문했을 당시, 무기 거래 가능성이 사실상 타결된 것으로 보고 있다.
당시 김정은 위원장은 양국 간 군사협력 확대를 언급하며 푸틴 대통령의 방북을 제안했으나 쇼이구 장관은 반대로 김 위원장의 방러를 역제안했고, 결국 김 위원장의 방러가 최종 확정됐다는 전언이다.
