(사)대한기자협회측은 9월23일자 보도자료에서 “국제연합뉴스 발행인 이창호(李昌虎) 씨는 사단법인 대한기자협회 제7대 회장으로 국회의원회관 제3세미나실에서, 오는 6일 오후 3시에 취임 예정이다. 대한기자협회는 국민의 알 권리를 보호하고 언론의 독립성을 지키며 더불어 행복한 세상을 만들어 가고자 설립된 단체”라고 밝혔다.

대한기자협회 김필용 이사장은 이창호 회장의 취임을 통해 “참 언론의 길을 걸어가는 데 최선의 노력을 다하며, 모두에게 균등한 기회가 주어지는 공정하고 정의로운 사회를 구현해 나가는 데 최선을 다하는 것은 물론, 언론의 사회의 책임을 다하기 위해 노력”할 것이라고 강조했다.
이창호 신임 대한기자협회 회장은 한중교류촉진위원회 위원장을 역임하고 있고, 한국에서도 중국과의 교류에 앞장서온 인물로 알려져 있다.
