브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 26일 더불어민주당 새 원내대표에 3선 홍익표 의원이 당선됐다.
민주당은 이날 오후 국회에서 원내대표 선출을 위한 의원총회를 열고, 홍익표 의원을 새 원내사령탑으로 선출했다.
앞서 이재명 대표의 체포동의안 가결 사태 책임을 지고 박광온 전 원내대표가 물러나자, 김민석·홍익표·남인순 의원이 원내대표 후보로 나섰다.
이날 1차 투표에선 재적의원 과반 이상을 득표한 후보가 없어, 결선 투표 끝에 홍익표 의원이 최종 당선됐다. 다만 민주당은 구체적인 득표 수는 공개하지 않았다.
이에 따라 홍 신임 원내대표는 이재명 대표 체포동의안 가결로 내홍에 휩싸인 당을 정상화시키는 한편, 내년 총선 승리를 견인해야 하는 중책을 맡게됐다. 특히 이 대표가 구속될 경우에는 당 대표 직무대행까지 맡게 된다.

홍익표 신임 원내대표는 이날 수락연설문을 통해 "이제는 하나의 원팀이다. 민주당이 하나의 팀이 돼 이재명 대표와 함께 내년 총선에서 승리할 수 있는 그런 힘을, 동력을 만들어 내겠다"며 "누구보다 희생하는 자리에서 제일 먼저, 그리고 여러분에게 값진 결과가 내년 총선에서 있을 수 있도록 함께하겠다"고 약속했다.
이어 그는 "한 분 한 분의 의견을 잘 경청하겠다. 말씀드린 대로 결정 과정에서는 원칙과 기준을 갖고 민주성과 다양성을 바탕으로 결정하고, 과정은 투명하고 공정하게 그리고 유능하게 관리해내겠다. 그에 대한 책임은 제가 제일 먼저 지겠다"고 강조했다.
그는 아울러 영장실질심사를 받고 있는 이재명 대표를 향해서도 "단식으로 건강도 좋지 않은 상황에서 영장실질심사를 받는 와중에 이런 원내대표 선거를 했다는 것에 대해 저희의 마음도 편치 않다"며 "영장 기각을 기원하면서 이후 사태에 대해서도 한 분 한분과 같이 상의하며 잘하도록 하겠다"고 말했다.
한편, 홍 신임 원내대표는 범친명계로 분류되나 계파 색채는 이날 출마한 후보군 중 가장 덜하다는 평을 받았다. 이에 따라 당 내 비명계 또는 중도 성향 의원들의 표심이 홍 의원에게 향한 것으로 분석된다.
