시민모임 독립측은 10월10일자 보도자료에서 “시민모임 독립이 주최하는 학술토론회 <고루 이극로>가 10월 11일 오후 2시 서울 프란치스코 교육회관 430호실에서 열린다”고 알렸다.
이 시민 단체는 “올해는 훈민정음 반포 577돌이 되는 해이자 이극로 선생 탄신 130주년이 되는 해이다. 이번 학술토론회는 우리말글 독립운동이었던 조선어학회 운동의 핵심이자, 해방 이후에도 ‘남 최현배, 북 이극로’라고 불릴 정도로 우리말글 표준화와 보급에 앞장섰던 선생의 삶과 업적을 짚어보는 자리”라고 설명하고 “학술토론회의 제1주제는 '이극로의 훈민정음 연구 재평가'이며, 김슬옹 세종국어문화원장과 허재영 단국대 교수가 발제와 토론을 맡는다. 발제문은 음성학으로 훈민정음을 연구한 이극로를 조명한다”고 전했다.
이날 토론회의 제2주제는 “이극로·정열모·이만규의 조선어학회 활동과 서훈문제”이며, 박용규 민족문제연구소 연구위원과 김용달 전 한국독립운동연구소장이 발제와 토론을 맡는다. 아직 서훈되지 않은 이극로 등 조선어학회 독립운동가들에 대한 서훈의 당위성이 강조된다.
제3주제는 '조선어학회를 기리는 국립국어사전박물관 건립”이며, 이우식·이극로·안호상을 중심으로>는 김복근 국립국어사전박물관 건립추진위원회 공동대표와 차민아 한글닷컴 대표가 발제와 토론을 맡는다. 경남 의령군 출신 조선어학회 운동가들의 삶을 조명하고, 그들을 기리는 의령군 국립국어사전박물관 건립 추진의 의의와 현황을 살핀다.
