【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=경주시는 지난 10일 힐튼호텔 경주에서 ‘제4차 세계유산도시기구 아태지역 총회’가 나흘간의 일정으로 개최됐다고 11일 밝혔다.

이번 총회는 ‘유·무형 유산 활용을 통한 세계유산도시 역량강화’를 주제로 국내외 25개 도시 250여 명이 참여했다.
이날 개막식에는 경주시가 자랑하는 ‘인피니티 플라잉 공연’을 시작으로 주낙영 경주시장의 환영사와 경북도 김학홍 부지사, 이철우 경주시의회 의장, 조근제 함안군수의 축사 순으로 진행됐다.
특히 개막식에는 국내·외 도시 19명의 시장단들이 세계유산도시의 화합과 유산보존을 상징하는 핸드프린팅 포퍼먼스를 진행하면서 분위기를 고조시켰다.
이어 11일에는 아태지역사무처의 업무보고와 신라왕경복원 등 도시별 사례 발표, 시장단 회의, 학술심포지엄 등이 열렸다.
이날 학술 심포지엄 일정이 마무리되는 오후부터는 교촌마을, 월정교, 동궁과 월지 등을 둘러보는 문화재 야행 행사도 개최된다.
또 12일은 ‘고대 실크로드 루트와 세계유산도시’를 주제로 전문가 워크샵, 세계유산 홍보관 견학, 도시별 사례 정책발표를 끝으로 폐막식이 열리고 13일은 양동마을 답사를 끝으로 모든 공식 일정이 마무리된다.
이번 총회는 국내외 청소년 및 대학(원)생을 대상으로 하는 ‘어깨동무캠프’와 ‘유스포럼’이 열려 국내외 청소년 네트워크를 구축하는 계기가 될 전망이다.
또 총회 기간 세계유산도시 권위자인 로열홀러웨이 런던대학의 데이빗 사이몬 교수와 도시건축 권위자인 이스라엘 예루살렘 예술디자인대학의 마이클 터너 교수 등 해외석학 18명을 포함한 24명의 전문가 그룹도 참여해 토론에 나선다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “세계유산은 우리 모두가 지켜나가야 할 인류의 자산임과 동시에 관광자원으로서도 무한한 가능성을 갖고 있다”며 “이번 총회를 통해 지속가능한 세계유산의 보존과 발전을 위한 우리들의 책임에 대해 다시 한 번 생각해 볼 수 있는 좋은 계기가 될 것으로 기대한다”고 강조했다.
